Re: Next gen Nintendo
I really hope this is a fad. I don't have to see a 3D TV to know that I don't like it- I know myself well enough.

I don't even have an HDTV. A 3DTV is probably 10-15 years down the line for me.
Re: Next gen Nintendo
I only ask that they keep making the console backward compatible. At least to Game Cube and Wii.
Thanks everyone...

I personally don't understand why anybody needs to see things in 3D, but I will be buying it for the games: Paper Mario, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, Star Fox, Professor Layton, Dragon Quest etc.
That is the same reason why I won't be getting Kinect.

No interest either in 3D having to wear dark glasses for a dim screen image.noiseredux wrote:I really have no interest in 3D gaming.

As in GB carts, what if there are already 3D enhancements built into older Wii games?
I have the wheels, need the Vectrex glasses. How did this motor on the nose slip by OSHA?

Re: Next gen Nintendo
Am I the only one who thinks that 3D games could be a huge benefit, if done correctly? Imagine playing a point-and-click adventure game in 3D; looking around corners, being able to inspect objects from multiple angles just be looking at them? 3D, combined with the head tracking technology shown in that one early 3D DSi game, could make for some really cool and immersive games. Sure, there are some genres where it wouldn't work as well, or would be unnecessary, such as rhythm games and RPGs, but there are some genres where the effect would actually aid in gameplay, like 2.5D platformers although, ironically, LittleBigPlanet is the best example I could think of
. Or maybe a new SNK fighting game, since they use multiple planes of combat often in their 2D fighters [Whoa, imagine that; 2D sprites from a 3D perspective!].
Also, the 3DS does away with the glasses, which is why many people dislike 3D in the first place. 3D Glasses are cumbersome, uncomfortable, and good ones can be somewhat pricey. The 3DS is the best solution to 3D I can think of with current technology, and it's even more useful on a portable system, mainly because you would look like an idiot playing a DS with 3D glasses.

You guys are straight crazy.
3D is absolutely awesome and if anyone is going to do it right, it's going to be Nintendo, if not only because they already know how it feels to fuck up a 3D gaming device. I've read time and time again that the 3DS is one of those 'see it to believe it' instances. I'm hoping that the already amazing software they've announced, coupled with the completely adjustable 3D will make this a successful system.
Sony though? I'm not so sure. I know many, many people who don't even have LCD TVs yet, so I'm less convinced about the 3DTV/PS3 idea.

Re: Next gen Nintendo
Only way I could see Nintendo doing a 3D console is if said console was a system and screen like the Vectrex. Wireless controllers, built in motion bar for wii crap, and the disc drive built into a semi-portable 3DTV. However, they'd need technology besides the Parallax barrier, which evidently doesn't work well with larger screens.

I agree that 3D is great, but only if done right. It can't have glasses. Until the glasses get done away with, it'll still just be a novelty in my eyes. After it is completely glasses-less, it will be great. Looking around corners is fine, but the best thing is BETTER DEPTH PERCEPTION! There will be less dieing because you can't see how big the pit is.
And the 3D where it mostly pops out at you isn't the best for the whole game, but the 3D where it appears to go into the screen is great.

Another point is what about 2D games? I'm kinda excited when 2.5D sidescrollers come out that have tru3D graphics, but 2D gameplay. That will be cool.
But it gets confusing now! When I describe a game as 3D as in 3D platformer, we'll have to ask "so is it real 3D?" and when I say 2D, it could also describe a 3D platformers. And 2.5D... Oh gosh!
