Possibility of a new console brand coming into the market

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Launching a console takes a lot of money for the R&D and a lot for the manufacturing. And unless you're Nintendo you also need to be able to absorb yearly losses for a number of years to establish your brand.

I'm pretty sure that if any company creates a new console anytime soon, it would be Apple.

So nobody considers OnLive a console? Interesting... I probably wouldn't consider it a console either, but surprised no one else thinks differently.

Just goes to show what a miserable failure it's going to be!
NES | SNES | Genesis | PSOne | Saturn | N64 | Dreamcast | Gamecube | XBox | PS2 Phat w/HDLoader | PS3 Slim| Wii
GBA SP | PSP-1000 | WiFi-iPad 16GB(Is this a game system?) | Modded PS1 | PS Vita 3G

Onlive is a scam. Unless they can go back in time and send the signal to your TV before you press the button, our infrastructure just won't support it.

Additionally, Apple won't make a console. They'll say something about how consoles are dead, multimedia is the new way, the iPad is the best thing since sex, etc.

I can't help but say that this is an excellent point. Apple is all about digital, which is slowly becoming the way to do shit.

well, a totally new company would probably tank coughgizmondocough, since they wouldn't have any sort of brand image at all, and they would have to take some heavy losses for the first few years.

I think Smith Engineering is going to re-emerge with a new Vectrex. It will be pretty awesome.
