Keep in mind that the GBA games can be played on a TV through the Gameboy Player whereas the DS cannot. You also have the option to use any number of controllers on the Player:
Gamecube pad
GBA or SP as a controller
and there's third party adapters that allow you to use NES, SNES, Genesis, even N64 controllers.
I personally love to play Zero with an SNES controller. Seems fitting.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
