Just got back from the NW Pinball & Gameroom Show

Post by J T »

It was AWESOME! It felt like time-warping to an arcade from the 80s. They had so many classic arcade machines there. I played on original arcade machines of games like Asteroids, Space Invaders, Tutankhamun, Frogger, Popeye, R-Type, and others. One of the more interesting games was a game based on the band Journey. I never knew that game existed. It had little digitized versions of the band members' heads and it played these great little midi versions of Journey songs like "Don't stop believing."

I met Steve Wiebe there and he autographed a picture of himself for me and gave me a pack of bubble gum. lol.

Here's a few cell phone pics:

No. They were missing a lot of the pinball machines I was hoping to see. No Twilight Zone, no Addam's Family, no X-Files, no Black Knight.

I had the most fun with the old arcade machines. I hadn't seen some of those old games in proper machines since my youth. I forgot that Space Invaders and Asteroids Deluxe used to reflect the graphics off of an angled screen so that you could see the graphics transposed on top of a hand drawn back drop. That was a cool effect for dealing with the limited graphic abilities of those old machines.

All the games were set to free play, so you didn't have to drop quarters and you could quickly bounce from game to game. It really did feel like I was kid in an arcade again. Especially since Steve Wiebe gave me some old-fashioned pink bubble gum.

Bah, a shame, missing several of my favorite pinball machines! Oh well, I'd still happily go to get my butt kicked at Space Invaders.

This sounds like it was freaking awesome and some GREAT games! (yes, Journey's Escape is great, and is also available on Atari if I'm not mistaken)

The pictures remind me quite a bit of the old-school penny arcade they have at pier 49 in San Fran. Can't remember the name at the moment. Now that I think of it, somewhere I have pictures of my friend and I playing on an original 4-player Pong arcade machine there.
