that would be me

=)

it warms my heart to read an actual review of Giana Sisters DS

apart from some spelling-errors (which are a given) it was a nice run-down of both the old and new Giana Sisters

I would like to add, however that the levels are not strictly left-to-right, as you can go both ways (IIRC)

I've yet to see any "professional" reviews of this game, but since I don't care about them, it don't bother me as much

it's just a damn shame that this game had such a limited release and that it is so unknown to the vast majority of gamers out there

Giana Sisters on the C64 had two different fronts (IIRC) and the other one is this:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1I7KiCuAU4k/R ... sFront.jpg

it says "the brothers are history", which was one of the things Nintendo took offense to

there was/is a SMB for the C64 as well, but it is in my opinion utter crap

I did like SMB for the NES, but Giana Sisters had much more attitude than the plumber brothers; with Maria being a "punk-rocker" and all

having played both New Super Mario Bros. and Giana Sisters DS; I can but agree that Giana Sisters DS is the winner hands down

unfortunately many Nintendo gamers have not heard of, or dismisses Giana Sisters as a clone of the perfect platform game which is the SMB series

Giana Sisters DS doesn't as much revolutionize the formula as it perfects it

the fact that it's on the DS is both ironic and perfect at the same time

this title would probably work as a download for the Wii as well; but it just feels perfect on a DS, due to it's short levels and gripping game-play

it may not contain any new, fancy super-moves or similar, but it retains not only the OldSkool flavor which many of us crave, it also manages to push the limits on 2D in terms of animations and general art-direction

the fact that the enemies sometimes stops and stares at you, when walking about (i.e. they look at the player holding the DS), is one of these small little touches, which makes it all the more original

I've yet to collect all the red diamonds, but I'm about 90% done

I'm very, very curious as to see the original levels with new graphics, as I was under the impression that it used the old graphics for those

all in all, I truly hope that your review will pave some way for this great, great title and perhaps some of those Nintendo hard-core's will try a different take on a popular franchise, because 2D-Platforming is the only true platforming if you ask me

and yes: support Spellbound in this, not only because they remade Giana Sisters, but in hopes that they can keep producing quality games like this
C-64 will never die
- only the players

Thank you Lord_Santa, I'm glad you read my review of Giana Sisters DS and enjoyed it.

I'm still new here, so I'm a little confused...this thread is for my posting of the C64 version and the link I posted is to that. Lord_Santa's comments are specific to Giana Sisters DS, which is a different game I also made a thread for, but can no longer find. Did a mod see these two threads and think they were duplicates?

In anycase, I suppose it doesn't matter much now. Here is the link to my Giana Sisters DS review.

At the top of your C64 review, you have a link to a retrospective on the Giana Sisters and a link to the DS review. I think Lord Santa was commenting on all of them and didn't realize that your posting was specific to the C64 version.

Because of your review, I decided to try out the DS version. It looks like it was released only in Europe. If I like the game, I guess I'll have to import it.

I think this is the original cover shot for the game. Somewhat risque.

I believe this is the cover shot of the remade C64 game.
