Handheld nes

i've been seeing these handheld nes's on ebay, and thought about getting one... are they any good and which one is the best

I know I messed around with one of the more common ones, the buttons are switched around and placed more vertically, it was really awkward and I didn't like it. Also the emulation wasn't that great, sound and color were off.

So far it's worked out really good. I've only had a couple of complaints. One is that the screen isn't the right aspect ratio, so everything is slightly stretched horizontally. The other is that it has two speaker ports but it's only a mono sound output. It makes things sound terrible. You can fix it by putting a piece of tape over one of the speaker ports to force all the sound out of the other one. That or use headphones.

Don't bother. Famiclones are Famiclones; all are cheap and based on the Nintendo on a chip design which allows them to be so small. You're much better off emulating NES on a hacked PSP or even DS.

There's only a single handheld NES system that's worth a damn: The GameAxe Color. Why? Because it was designed in 1989 and uses reverse engineered parts instead of being NOAC based.

While I honestly have found my FC Mobile to be a worthwhile purchase your GameAxe intruiges me. What's the battery life like on it?

I have one that I don't use and am willing to sell. Nothing lower than $130 though. It takes 6 AA batteries that last around 8-10 hours. Large 3.25" color backlit LCD. Very old and bulky, but its NOT an NOAC.

Battery Life: Approximately 2.5 hours on alkalines. Much longer using Energizer Lithium or NiMH batteries

Seems like a interesting device. Still can be bought if you look hard enough on foreign auction sites. The screen is blurry compared to recent gen.

I've got a Game Axe as well, and it indeed is a surprisingly great system. One caveat though: I don't know about Satoshi's, but mine only has a Famicom slot, making it a bit of an undertaking to get NES games working well on it.
