I'm with you on the uniformity of spine labels, and in that case, I gather you absolutely love how Sony changed their PS3 cases too. :?
PS3 AND PSP. Just to dick with us. It's still not as bad as the Genesis design change.

If you dont want the greatest hits version, buy it in its initial run, aint that the point?

Pay more = Get game early, Cool case.
Pay less = Get game later, Gay case.

You complain its less valuable, but you payed less for it in the first place.

One word I would use to describe budget re-releases. Tacky. I never buy them. It actually annoys me that amazon.com tends to only sell greatest hits/platinum/best/etc. versions for some games, forcing me to hit up ebay or some other online site or try hunting down a used copy in a game store. I don't like buying used though, not for modern, non-retro titles anyway

Look at the amount of advertising on Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year edition. Certainly makes me glad I have an original release copy(well, I have two actually LOL)

I have seen a few nice looking japanese budget re-releases with new artwork though

Still, I'd rather have the "classic" original version of a game.

I like GOTY editions - they usually don't have the inconsistent labels that plague the GH games, and almost always include additional content. For current gen stuff, the GOTY editions are often the only way to get some of the DLC stuff on disc, so that's a big plus for me.

DLC on disc is a plus I guess. That's not something I'd considered. I guess I'd rather have important data like that on something realible, unlike a hard drive

I have noticed on Gamecube Star Wars there is either a Color or Black and White game manual.
Unsure which belonged to Players Choice, but always get the color when its a choice.

Brought this up before a few other posts, deserves repeating.
Some Greatest Hits do have extra stuff.
