Nes/Snes powerpaks
Re: Nes/Snes powerpaks
I have both the NES and SNES powerpaks. Something that I consider pretty cool about them is that I don't have to worry about losing my game saves because of cart batteries going dead.
Before you decide whether or not to buy the SNES one, make sure you check the incompatibility list. I think the NES has a mapper compatibility list, so you'll have to figure out which mappers the games you want to play use.
Another compatibility issue is with consoles. I have tried the NES powerpak with the official top loading NES, and it works perfect. I also tried it with a portable NES called the Retro Mini and it didn't work. I have only tried the SNES powerpak with the model 2 SNES and it works perfect. When the SNES one first came out, there were issues with the model 2 SNES, but they have been solved since then. The official consoles I own are the US versions.

I think it's pretty neat I can play SNES games on real hardware without using a single official Nintendo product. That ensures the console will live on for generations.
Third party power supplies, decks, A/V cables, controllers and now game carts can be had.
Do they offer it in a SNES shell instead of a SFC shell?

From what I understand, the production of the cart shells is expensive to buy into. I assume this is why he only has the PAL cart since it will also fit in an NTSC-U system.

The Super Powerpak is Super Famicom/European SNES shaped, but with the necessary slots to fit inside an US SNES. This makes it region free across all SNES designs.
I'm confused though vxbinaca. It's almost like you're saying you would rather play on a third party clone system.

Re: Nes/Snes powerpaks
Just finished loading both of mine up. I'm amazed that the mappers on the NES roms with custom sound chips play fine and are only missing the extra channels. Gimmick sounds great even without the extra channels. The only thing I noticed that was a little weird is this dotted static on certain games between the play area and status bar. Not too distracting but I don't remember it being there on the originals. I too highly recommend both units. It's awesome playing Mario Vs. Airman and Final Fantasy V on original hardware.

Here's a thought- is it possible to emulate the Super Gameboy on the SNES powerpack?

Re: Nes/Snes powerpaks
No, the Super NES never had the hardware power necessary to run Gameboy games. The reason the Super Gameboy cartridge is so large is because it infact has the Z-80 processor and other hardware directly from the Gameboy built in.AmishSamurai wrote:Here's a thought- is it possible to emulate the Super Gameboy on the SNES powerpack?
The only way the Super PowerPak could do Gameboy emulation is if it too shared the GB hardware, which it doesn't.
Don't be surprised at all this though;
The transfer Pak on the N64 had GB hardware built in to let it play GB games
The Gamecube Gameboy Player had GBA hardware built in as well.
