Namco Bandai Sales VP: Wii and DS market has collapsed

Has the bubble burst for the Wii and DS?

It’s a tough market. DS is the most successful platform ever, but all my kids’ friends at school have a DS with an R4. They have 100 games for no money. So yes, the market has collapsed for the DS and Wii.

I am very sad about this. One of the reasons the DS collapsed is piracy, it is very clear, but also it is a fantastic machine and very easy to develop for. It was possible for three kids in a garage to make a game for it.
We had a lot of product, and the average quality of a game on DS and Wii is very, very bad. So in the mind of the consumer today, to buy a DS or Wii game is to buy a game that isn’t very good.
I'm not going to comment on the Wii, but the DS software drought has reached its peak, from which is there is no return. I'm mostly using mine to play homebrew and emulation. I don't think the GBA had it this bad during its final days on the market.

So, where is he talking about? or everywhere? I can't find any person that uses an R4. except for pricks in college and high school. Which isn't much of the demographic.
Edit: Also, Has he talked about how the psp has collapsed from piracy?(Really less of a question)

I haven't used my DS in over a year probably.
And I buy mostly PS3 games now instead of Wii. I'll still play some Wii games, but haven't been buying new ones. And I can totally understand the quality issue. Way too many crappy licensed or me-too games. In fact, that's most of what the store shelves are for the Wii -- you have to really look to spot the quality stuff (I can't imagine the frustration for the average customer)

Well, there goes our last chance of ever seeing Tales of Graces , Tales of the Tempest, Tales of Hearts, and Tales of Innocence ever localized and released. :( Namco Bandai has sure been doing a lot of shit lately to get them on my enemies list.

Whatever, I still have alot of fun with my DS and Wii. I will admit that there hasnt been anything on the DS that has peaked my interest recently, but thats fine, theres still what 8 years of titles I need to play?

Once you get over the handful of great first party titles for the wii, there isn't much... (Excluding Super Mario Galaxy 2, the last game I bought for my Wii was easily more than a year ago). I think the DS still has some great stuff going for it...The 2 new Dragon Quests (well, 1 new, one remake) come to mind immediately. There's also the new FF Warriors of Light later this year

I never got that logic. Why are you being defensive? It's not like Nintendo offers you a paycheque. DS and Wii owners are getting shortchanged in terms of quality software because of a number of verifiable reasons.

This sounds like NamcoBandai got passed over for a pre-release 3DS development kit and they are sore about it.

But yeah, I'm sure Nintendo really cares about the opinions of one person within Namco Bandai...assuming they can hear him over the sound of how much money they are making.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

The man has made a fucking point. But no Apple and Nintendo fanboys are always there with their ad hominem attacks.

I wish this forum had an ignore button to weed about the fanboy drivel.
