AV Fami + nes/fc adapter + CV3 = problems...

Post by Zapf »

I'm also having a problem with a tengen gauntlet cart, but I want to focus on getting Castlevania 3 to work. I have an AV famicom, and two different nes to famicom adapters - the cheap yobo one, and a more expensive clear black one. I had the yobo one first, and was having problems with that one with all my games - the contacts are really short and have connection issues with AV famicoms in particular. I could get most of my games working with a minute of fiddling, but castlevania III was just refusing to play right. Turning it on, you get sound, but no intro video (the film reel thing). there is some graphic corruption on the title screen, the name entry and that intro short right after, and the first level never loads.

I thought it was purely the yobo adapters fault, so I went and got another one I saw on ebay. This one works great without fiddling on my av famicom for all my games, but castlevania III / gauntlet (the first level is totally fucked up and you can't go anywhere) are still exhibiting the same issues. The closest I got to working was by lifting up the right side of the adapter some - it caused the intro graphics to appear, albeit heavily corrupted.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup? Maybe its an issue with the AV famicom? I'll probably get the famicom version of CV3 eventually, but I got the av famicom mainly because I wanted a toploader with av (yes I realize I could get a top loader nes model 2 modded), with the future possibility of playing those enhanced audio famicom titles / the FDS.

I was gonna say, why even bother playing CV3 if you have a Famicom? The FC version is SO much better.

CV3 rarely works correctly, if at all, on anything but a real NES.

I feel like CV3 is infamous for incompatibility issues.

Indeed CV3 doesn't like clone systems, it wouldn't surprise me if it there was some sort of conflict with an actual Fami too. Usually on a clone you get a green or brown screen. I swear I've either tried or read about CV3 starting like you describe, then locking up on one particular clone.
