No. I'm not even sure how you see a correlation.

I also just noticed that someone lumped in FPS with shooters. For the love of god, don't merge shoot 'em ups with FPS. The two have almost nothing in common.
This is absolutely true. Rythm games and puzzle games are completely separate genres. Parappa the Rappa has nothing in common with Tetris. Shoot 'em ups are worlds apart from first person shooters. Galaga has nothing in common with Doom.

I also contend that racing games are not sports games. Even if you erroneously believe that NASCAR is a sport, there's still no good reason for Mario Cart to go in the same forum as NHL '94.

By the way, I voted for a platformer section. This seems like the most obvious choice. There are enough retro platformers out there that one could play a different platformer every day for the rest of one's life. I'd like to hear some discussions about quality platformers that don't star plummers or spiny mammals.

Though I understand the thought behind choosing platformers, I don't think I've ever met a person devoted to the genre. There are tons of classic platformers, sure, but how much is there to talk about? Jumping strategies? High scores? Speed runs? It's a classic genre, but I wouldn't call it the deepest of genres. There are websites devoted to shooters, fighters, rhythm games... but could anyone actually imagine a website devoted to platformers? I couldn't find one, nor could I particularly imagine one.

I am. I prefer platformers over any other genre. I also enjoy RPGs but I like the ability to play/perfect one level at at a time.
There is also something gratifying of beating a game that you had to play the first couple levels a hundred of times because of loss of lives and continues while working your way to the end of the final level.

I didn't say I haven't met fans of the genre. But I've never seen anyone so purely devoted to platformers that they don't play much of anything else (like I see with fighters, shooters, and rhythm games).

Rhythm and Puzzle games should be in an "other" section because they just seem not to be big enough to warrant their own topic.

But if we divide FPS's and SHMUPS, we'd have tons of sections with only a few posts in each. FPS and SHMUPS go together because they are both shooting games. SHMUPS and Run n' Guns are pretty similar, and FPS's are (for the most part) just 3D Run n' Guns.

Racing is a sport, and it isn't talked about enough to render its own section, so it should just go in the same section as sports. Mario Kart doesn't really belong in the same section as Need for Speed either, it's a cartoony battle racing game .

Oh Crap! It's the return of the is NASCAR a real sport debate that ended in a couple bar fights back in college.

Back on point. I agree racing is a sports game, and Mario Kart is a Nintendo exclusive so MK could go in the Nintendo forum.

We should have separate forums for:

Baseball
-Sim
-Arcade
-Robot

Football
-Sim
-Arcade
-Mutant

Basketball
-Sim
-Arcade

Tennis
-With mascots
-Without mascots

Hockey
-Sim
-Arcade
-Mutant

Racing
-Kart Racing
-Rally Car Racing
-Sim Car Racing
-Indy racing
-NASCAR Racing
-Motorcycle Racing
-Boat Racing
-Horse Racing
-ATV Racing
-Futuristic Racing

Futbol
Rugby
Cricket
Golf
etc.

Or, you know, we could just put all sports discussion in one big "Other" forum along with puzzle, music, dancing, and every other genre that we rarely if ever talk about so that we have more than three goddamn posts per forum. We talk about platformers and games with a lot of shooting, otherwise everything else just gets passing mention here and there. The more subforums we have the more ridiculous moderating gets - I'd rather just expand where we actually need it. And if we end up with an "adventure" subforum I'm just going to throw any discussion of a game that could loosely be considered an adventure (e.g. Halo) into that forum.

Just kidding. I totally agree with D. Not much should be added as it will make sections into ghost towns.
