Re: Vote for the New Genre Forum Section
only voted for platformers, I feel that FPS could be happily grouped with shmups and run n gun in a shooter section without too much trouble. The other genres I just dont think theres enough to say about them. I also think a computers forum would be more useful, even though I'd avoid it lke the plague. It actually would make it easier for me to find relevant console topics in Sony/Microsoft.

why not combine adventure with rpg, FPS and Action as its own forum, and combine racing/puzzle/sports/quirky as one forum?

Why on earth would you group the likes of Katamari Damacy and Puzzle League with the likes of FIFA, Madden and Need for Speed? Those are some weird groupings.

Re: Vote for the New Genre Forum Section
If I knew that platformers wasn't there I would have voted for it, I actually thought that it was such an obvious choice, that it was already there.
Platformers should absolutely get its own topic.
I don't even know what action games are? Can't virtually every game fit in there?
Shmups, Run n' Guns, FPS's, etc. should be in a "Shooters" Topic
Adventure, RPG's, etc. should be in an "Adventure/RPG" Topic
2D Platformers, 3D Platformers, etc. should be in a "Platformers" Topic
Racing, Sports, etc. should be in a "Sports" Topic, as racing is a sport
Puzzle, Quirky, MUSIC (i.e. Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Donkey Konga, etc.), etc. should be in an "Other" Topic
That's only five topics that covers just about every genre, using obvious groupings.

It's not so much that breaking the forums down by genre is bad. It's that looking at some of the posts that have been made, I think we're starting to get into sub genre territory now, and that might be a bit too complicated and would result in too many forums. Maybe just keeping things general like action or platformer and simply let individual threads break things down into sub genre talk. You could go into the platformer forum for example and decide if you want to make a thread about action platformers(Megaman, Castlevania, etc.)or cutesy, mascot platformers(Mario, Sonic, etc.)or whatever else floats your boatnoiseredux wrote:I don't know if I really like breaking the forums down by genre, personally. I would like seperate forums for Sony/MS, but I can kind of see why it's not considered a priority on a retro site.

because all of those games are less likely to get discussion and it'd keep traffic spread fairly evenly among the different genre boards.alienjesus wrote:Why on earth would you group the likes of Katamari Damacy and Puzzle League with the likes of FIFA, Madden and Need for Speed? Besides how much sports game talk is REALLY on this site?

I also dread the outcome... I feel like if you post about say R-Type III and put it in the Nintendo category, that might be fine with some mods, but then other mods will make a point to tell you that it should have gone in Shmups. Blah blah pedantic headaches abound.Gamerforlife wrote:It's not so much that breaking the forums down by genre is bad. I voted Platformer and Adventure, since I would never want to see an FPS forums on Racketboy.

Now there is an idea. Maybe all games should be talked about in the genre sections and hardware only in the platform selections... or maybe hardware and exclusives...noiseredux wrote:I also dread the outcome... Not perfect, but an idea none the less.

No. I'm not even sure how you see a correlation.yomomma1 wrote:Isn't rhythm just a really fast puzzle game?
I also just noticed that someone lumped in FPS with shooters. For the love of god, don't merge shoot 'em ups with FPS. The two have almost nothing in common.
