Re: New Mortal Kombat movie
I thought it was cool. Specifically, not following the retarded "storyline" of the Mortal Kombat series is a good idea.
The first Mortal Kombat movie is not good, on any conceivable scale. It's hard for me to believe anyone can enjoy it, outside of hardcore Mortal Kombat fans just getting a kick of seeing the character portrayed on screen. The story is stupid, the cast is bad (Shang Tsung is decidely not intimidating and the asian thundergod Raiden is played by a Frenchman, presumably because Christopher Lambert was the biggest name they could get to return their calls), the fight choreography (done by the guy who played Liu Kang) is extremely dull and the special effects are hideous.
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is the worst major movie release ever.

I'll just copy and paste what I said on a different forum:
It's definitely a demo reel, but I also have no doubt it will get turned into a feature film so long as the producers can stomach going through the motions to keep it from getting an NC-17 rating. I think the gritty realistic approach is every bit as valid as the ridiculous science-fiction narrative of the original game (aliens or implausible medical conditions - does anyone care?). I think film audiences can approach realism, however unrealistic, more easily than the latter. Unfortunately, despite the gritty realism, it looks like it could become every bit as campy as the PG-13 versions.

Ha, suggesting it could even be classified as NC-17. Unless it's got penises, a movie usually won't get that. Rape scenes can be classified as R, though. Tons of violence is fine, and gore, and blood, and blood and gore. It doesn't look like Nc-17. Edit: Rating systems are lenient (in america) with Violence.

Especially these days. Heck, a snuff film probably couldn't manage an NC-17 rating.yomomma1 wrote:Ha, suggesting it could even be classified as NC-17. Go take a look at NC-17 in Wiki and you'll be surprised how many R-rated movies had to either edit or appeal to get an R rating.
In case you don't want to bother looking: American Pie, American Psycho, The Cooler, Hostel, House of 1000 Corpses, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Kill Bill, Monster's Ball, Pulp Fiction, Saw, II and III, Team America: World Police, and many, many more.

When I saw this earlier it completely baffled me. This have the same effect for anyone else?
So is this a new movie or promotion of mk9 or even a possible reboot of the live action tv show... What ever it is this is an effective marketing tool, or its a fake

Re: New Mortal Kombat movie
And how did Kill bill solve its problem? The amount needed to be edited out isn't much when considering the content of the rest of the movie.crux wrote:Go take a look at NC-17 in Wiki and you'll be surprised how many R-rated movies had to either edit or appeal to get an R rating.

Re: New Mortal Kombat movie
That's only a testament to the fickleness of MPAA rating system. My original comment still stands.
Re: New Mortal Kombat movie
It didn't, it just cut to black and white in a particular scene, which allowed it to get away with more.yomomma1 wrote:And how did Kill bill solve its problem? Either way, I think this film looks horrible. The dialog is forced and unnatural, the actors are overdoing it, and the plot's apparently a "violent and gritty" update of Bloodsport. What is this, and what does it have to do with Mortal Kombat? It feels more like everything that's wrong with video game movies. I can just see the board meeting now:
"Hey guys, what do gamers like?"
"Crappy plots that sound like it was written by a thirteen-year-old, pointless and extreme violence, and television actors trying as hard as they can to act 'cool.'"
"It's brilliant!"
