Re: Was there an Indigo Game Boy Player?
Just want to add first hand confirmation. I bought a spice (orange) GB Player off of Yahoo Japan auctions. It works great with my purple, US-market DOL-001. And it supports (and looks great, just jam your nose up against black text on white background to see the difference) progressive mode with the component cable. And yeah, it won't boot with the Japanese GB Player disc, but the US disc boots fine and doesn't know that the Player is... orange.
Along with my BLACK Hori digital pad, it's a harlequin of near-retro fun.

Re: Was there an Indigo Game Boy Player?
I know most of this was already said, but Ill say it again:
To my knowledge the only Gameboy Player released outside of Japan was the black one. In Japan there was Indigo (Purple), Spice (Orange), Jet (Black), Platinum, and Q (Panasonic spaceship looking cube). It is also my understanding that the hardware is universal, just the software is region locked. Meaning you can use a Japanese Gameboy Player with a US console if you have a US disc. I have yet to test this but I have been told it by others that that is the case. The only issue I know of is that the Q players are shaped differently.
I am always looking for a good deal on a Spice or Q but I am sure I cannot justify a sixth Gamecube.
