Does anybody just buy the game only or complete

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

You can play an incomplete game, you can't drive an incomplete car. Having everything is nice, and if it were cost effective I'd buy everything in the box with the manual. With SNES and NES games, I think they look good on a shelf without the box. Considering the wear on your average snes box if it even still exists, they probably look better.
It's purely subjective, but I think there's no comparison. A shelf of SNES carts has got nothing on a shelf full of boxed ones. One looks like a collection, the other looks like stuff from a garage sale. Big difference, and I have quite a few boxes that are still in great shape, but even a worn box looks better than just a plain old cartridge in my eyes

see i feel the same way about snes,nes,genny,n64 etc carts. They all look nice themselves. but any disc game needs to be complete. The game just looks like crap with just a jewel case or a gamestop case. I still don't know why people throw out their cases for cd/dvd based games.

Well that's fine and dandy, but why does a game have to look like anything? It's an experience, meant to be experienced. Do you value the fun to be had by playing these games or do you value the act of owning stuff? Ink pressed unto paper pressed unto plastic to me is nothing, it is inherently worthless. Like the ink pressed unto paper pressed unto plastic that is a Slurpee cup or a Burger King bag.

Not to say that there is anything wrong with the collector mentality. My mom collects souvenir shotglasses, but I've never seen her take a hard drink.

Myself, I'd much rather get drunk than own a bunch of tiny pieces of glass.

The same reason why you don't hold on to the box your coffee maker or your alarm clock came in. It's just packaging.
Except that the coffee maker or alarm clock isn't usually worth significantly more a few years down the road if it has its original packaging. Games, on the other hand, are worth more when complete. Even if you don't care about how they look on your shelf or intend to ever sell them, throwing out "packaging" that would add value to your game seems dumb to me.

Two problems with this:
1. even complete, used games are lucky to even meet their original retail value, much less ever go over.

2. the average gamer couldn't care less about getting their money's worth on the aftermarket anyhow. If they actually did, they wouldn't take so many of their games to places like GameStop.

Yes, but but pretty much anywhere except Gamestop they're still worth more complete.
