Ok there's nothing wrong with being/eating healthy, but every once in a while (aka all the time) I come across some article about healthy eating that's just stupid:
http://mmmunchonthis.wordpress.com/2010 ... n-do-nots/
Because there's nothing kids love more than raisin bran muffins! Come on now. Nobody is pretending dunkin donuts is healthfood. . . it's a treat. But don't pretend like you can replace a bag of m&ms with carrot frosted soy chips.
On another note, is there any reason why food that's bad for us tastes so much better? I would think there'd be some sort of instinct built into us that makes us like things that are good for us, and dislike things that will clog our arteries. Maybe it's natural selection trying to cut down on the human population. . .
Health dorks
Re: Health dorks
We crave fat because it is high in calories and stored easily in the body. Over many years of evolution the things that could sustain us the longest became the things we would crave. None of it is really "bad" for you if you eat the right amount and exercise.
If you were going to be doing some serious labor and food was scarce you would want the most bang for your buck, so to speak.
Now that we don't have to work nearly as hard (physically speaking) and food is abundant in most of the world people become unhealthy.

Re: Health dorks
It's not the food that's unhealthy, it's our white-collar lifestyle. You'll notice this whole "health food" thing is an American invention. Think about it; we're so fucking rich that we can afford NOT to eat.

jp1 is exactly right, and it extends far beyond high calorie options as well. Salt can be unhealthy without proper moderation, yet it's absolutely essential to the human diet. And accordingly, almost everyone on Earth craves at least some amount of salt. (Random aside - introduce salty foods to young children and they'll crave it for the rest of their life. Keep it away and they'll avoid saltier foods as adults.)

God damn, I feel sorry for the kid who's mom brings in those raisin brand muffins instead of Dunkin' Donuts!
Re: Health dorks
Have you tried the muffins? They sound pretty good.

The thing about bran muffins reminded me of this list:

Like another posted, you should watch Food Inc if you're interested. They explain how our addictions lay towards 3 ingredients; fat, sugar, and salt. They have a lot of interesting facts in the movie, including the conspiracy behind corn haha.

Yeah! And I hate raisins!Switching to bran doesn't stop the muffin from being worth its weight in sausage, egg and heart attacks. Assuming bran muffins are any better for you is like switching out the chocolate chips in chocolate chip cookies for raisins and declaring it health food. Structurally, it's still mostly cookie. Switching to a bran muffin gets you down to a just under the calorie count of a Sausage McMuffin, which is not the kind of breakfast that will get your body on the cover of Shapely Ass magazine.
