I would definitely suggest going back and looking over the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and I've heard Metro 2033 does an excellent job of forcing you to think through situations since your ammunition is so limited.Pulsar_t wrote:I judge them by how 'militant' they've become, with a few minor exceptions. They appeal to trigger-happy militant youth and more people find themselves fed up with all the mindless mayhem. It wouldn't hurt to offer a bit of thoughtfulness into the design process, ie where is the Thinking Man's FPS? Also, it's not exactly a genre teeming with innovationas as of late. Maybe Bulletstorm will revitalise things?Ack wrote:Now I enjoy FPS a lot, but I've noticed a lot of hate for them on this site. Please don't judge the genre based solely on the handful of titles that get the most hype, there are a lot of quality games you're missing out on from the last twenty or so years, and I'd be more than happy to suggest a few for you to check out if you're interested.
And mindless mayhem is fun! It's why we enjoy 8-player Serious Sam so much.

Sorry man, it doesn't ring a bell. I haven't played too many handheld FPS titles though. Do you mean Dark Arena?noiseredux wrote:Ack, have you played um... crap... I forgot the name of it now. I love the STALKER games and promptly played to completion all three of them. As for Metro I'm waiting for a price drop before getting it.
I really hope Bulletstorm adds a new layer of complexity to the mindless mayhem that it blatantly provides.. Deus Ex 3 had better be good too!

Metro 2033 gives you very limited resources. Enemies don't drop much ammo when they die, and your ammo is weak and inaccurate at range. The game rewards taking a more strategic approach to combat; sneaking around and eliminating enemies one by one is the way to go.Ack wrote:I would definitely suggest going back and looking over the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and I've heard Metro 2033 does an excellent job of forcing you to think through situations since your ammunition is so limited.

Also, the game has even more atmosphere than STALKER, which was already an atmospheric game.

That's news to me. I don't usually hear a lot of complaints about it, except from people who just hate FF in general or think the series started to suck once it went 32-bityomomma1 wrote:From my understanding ALOT of people hated it.Haoie wrote:FFXII

Ignore my last post, for some reason I thought you guys were talking about FF X
I did like FF12 though, it was the most hardcore of all the modern FF games I've played(meaning everything from FF 7 onward), but damn the treasure system was annoying and that nonsense with the Zodiac Spear
