What "Great" game did you end up hating?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

If you hated No More Heroes then I strongly urge you to not so much as even have an inquisitive thought about Killer 7, the previous game made by the same person.

Without giving a redundant response *coughHalo*, I can't really think of any particularly revered games that I gave a serious chance and didn't like. I wasn't particularly enthralled by Earthbound in what little I played of it, but I don't think I gave it much of a chance and I heard that its a bit slow to start anyhow.

There's gotta be something though... OH I know, Secret of Mana. I owned it briefly, played it for a good bit, but just did not find it particularly enjoyable. Felt like an overly clunky Zelda to me. Maybe I'm missing out on something because I didn't play it multiplayer, but I don't really have any local friends (anymore) to play it with anyhow so I don't think it's a relevant excuse for me. I did love the psx Legend of Mana though.

I didnt enjoy no more heroes either tbh. It was fun for 5 minutes but it felt so un polished.
It felt like it was one of those games you find free in your cereals.

Super Mario Sunshine. Hate that stupid waterpack. Also, everybody says great things about Blast Corps, but it's not that fun IMO. Don't like the GTA games either.

never played them lol. However, the concept of "hey look, shoot those old ladies!" never appealed to me.

Dudley seemed like a pretty blatant "Playing against stereotype" to me. As for Elena, she's pretty educated for a tribeswoman - although she's obviously "drawing inspiration" from Gainax's Nadia.

You'd seriously say they have anything on Balrog, T.Hawk, Deejay, Zangief and Dhalsim? Hell, even the characters that aren't blatant stereotypes like Chun Li and Blanka have home stages that are set in such obvious social stereotypes that it taints their image.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find Dudley or Elena to be offensive in the least. Sure, they obviously bare many features of people that come from their country of origin, but there's nothing offensive being highlighted. Meanwhile, when I look at Balrog or T.Hawk... ugh.

Anyway, here's another - Red Dead Redemption. I liked it at first. It was a lot of fun - although the missions are such standard fair and take no risks. But then, you reach a point where the game should be over... but it keeps going. And you have, like, 12 more missions before it's actually over. And it is BRUTALLY BORING. I just couldn't even force myself to play anymore.

Ack wrote:Now I enjoy FPS a lot, but I've noticed a lot of hate for them on this site. Please don't judge the genre based solely on the handful of titles that get the most hype, there are a lot of quality games you're missing out on from the last twenty or so years, and I'd be more than happy to suggest a few for you to check out if you're interested.
I judge them by how 'militant' they've become, with a few minor exceptions. They appeal to trigger-happy militant youth and more people find themselves fed up with all the mindless mayhem. It wouldn't hurt to offer a bit of thoughtfulness into the design process, ie where is the Thinking Man's FPS? Also, it's not exactly a genre teeming with innovationas as of late. Maybe Bulletstorm will revitalise things?

A genre get popular

After a while People want innovation.

It happens, something changes everything.

Some people like it(A), some people hate it(B). People spend hours upon hours bickering on Forums.

Innovation happens again, (A) hates it. Some of (B) hates it, The other part of (B) likes it. (C) (Really infinite, but limiting to 3)

Then, Innovation happens again. ABC hates it.

After a Few failed attempts, a game comes out that Most of ABC likes.

Only to realize it is What originally made the genre popular with out the gripes.

Then, nothing changes.

Of course some genres are in limbo, mid phase.
