Big flash games

Post by c0r33 »

Lets talk about these games that were once tiny humble flash games but have gone on to become bigger.

Alien Hominid for instance once a flash game. Has now gone on to fun a tiny game studio that is now working on its third game and has had a solid track record so far.

Canabalt a 2D style mirrors edge with a basic concept run and jump. The game gets a little more complex later on by throwing other obstacles in your path but still a fun time waster. It went on to become one of the best iphone games and it all started as a school project.

Robot Unicorn Attack was released this week for iphone but was a major flash game before that. Its an amazing game with the same concept as Canabalt only theres a point system for collecting 2 different items. By collecting fairies or smashing stars in succession you build a score multiplier you also gain points by going a distance. The crazy art style hilarious music and the way the game tells you your going to lose gives it its charm.

Is there any other flash games that have gone on to get major console releases or iphone ports? Im curious cause I rather like these fun little time wasters and if there on the iphone there worth supporting.

Minotaur China Shop is a fun little game that is laugh out loud funny. I think I heard about it getting an i-phone port as some point.

Also, all of the "games-as-art" geeks like myself can gush for hours about the brilliance of Every Day the Same Dream.

It hasn't been ported to another platform as far as I know, but it did inspire a (not very good) student film.

My god, I had forgotten about that game. I used to play it all the time when we first got AOL. I think I was in the sixth grade at the time!

These ones went the backwards direction. Portal started big and went flash:

And as a promotion for Dragon Age: Origins, Bioware made a nice little flash version

I think the team made the flash game while waiting for Valve to finish Portal. Later they added levels that resembled the ones in the real game.
