What "Great" game did you end up hating?

Post by Jerkface Killah »

Have you ever hated or harshly disliked a game that came very highly recommended? Have you read a very complimentary review only to despise the game when playing it? Let's hear some stories.

I'll start. I was excited to play Astal on the Saturn. I heard that it was a much overlooked platformer. A "hidden gem", if you will. It also rates pretty well on review sites. I was very disappointed. The difficulty is extremely inconstant. Some levels I made it through on my first try, others took 45 minutes for what should have been no more than 10. And glitches galore. Enough about Astal, what game did you expect to like, and end up hating?

I hated Gears of War. Hated it with two snaps and a twist.

And Halo 3.

I just didn't like LittleBigPlanet. Something about the platforming I felt was sub par and hard to control compared to better games on other consoles. The only redeeming quality was the creation, and even then I felt it was slow, clunky, and hard to navigate. I also couldn't fathom spending money for in game clothes.
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

I couldn't get into it either. If ever there was a game with download-able shovel-ware, LBP is it. I also felt that for a completest, having to replay levels seemed like it would take forever.

Burnout Paradise..

I understand it might be a fun time for some, but the best part of past Burnout entries was that it was mindless fun, wreckage, and mayhem..
If I wanted to get lost racing to checkpoint A, lose a race because some granny in a Volvo decided not to yield to the barreling 135mph sportcar, or lose track of where I'm supposed to go next....

 I'd F%^*ING go play Midnight Club...

Burnout is supposed to be simple, arcade-y, and a blast (no pun intended) to play - (where the hell did the Crash modes go..??) Not a damn maze.

Deus Ex

I started that game at least 4 times.

System Shock 2

Started this one 2 or 3 times.

Bioshock

Ok, I made it a decent way into the game and it looks awesome. There's just something about it that turns me off. I gave it a chance thinkig that maybe SS2 just was too old and not clicking with me by the time I got around to playing it even though I have nothign against games simply for being older. I started it twice and kept taking longer and longer breaks from it and it's been well over a year since I've touched it last. :?

Metroid Prime. I loved all the 2d games, but no matter how hard I try I just can't get into the series. Graphics are great, I really like the art direction, controls are solid, but it still doesn't do anything for me.

Very fair points. I really enjoyed this game but I agree, getting lost is the most annoying thing possible. Taking what you thought was a shortcut ending up sending you the wrong way.
