VGA box - since we need another topic about it

Post by fastbilly1 »

Ok I finally took the plunge that all you people have been telling me I was a fool not to have already (well not really all of you, but that confusion of an opening sentence is bound to make people say this guy is obviously on something). Yes I finally bought a VGA box for my Dreamcast, I needed another video cord and I figured "what the hey," worst it could be is that I am out ten times the cost of the cable alone. Well Racket sent it to me lickity split and I fired it up today. To be honest I was not expecting a big jump, just a bit of smoothing here, some clearer textures there, man was I wrong. Firing up Propeller Arena was my first mistake, Rez was my second, and Shikigami no Shiro II was my last. Four hours have past and now I am even further behind on packing for this weekend than I was earlier. Usually I am not a video or audio -phile but man, after using this it is hard for me to think of using anything else for the console. Especially the rf adapter that my cousin uses for his, since he does not want to y is rca cables...

Racket, though I am filled with so much anger at you right now, this is in the top five of things I have bought in the $20-30 price range. However it will never top the picture of Scrooge McDuck signed by Don Rosa to me. And once I figure out a way to capture images from it, you can bet you will have some comparison shots in your inbox.

Ok, since we're on this topic, I've been meaning to find this out for awhile. I'm getting a HDTV that has a VGA port. My Xbox 360 is getting hooked to it and maybe my computer one day but I'd really like to hook my Dreamcast up to it too. Anybody have any suggestions on this? Is there a switchbox I could use that includes composite audio hookups as well? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you pickup the VGA box from racketboy and go to your local Radioshack and get an audio "stereo to rca" adapter, that would probably be the your best bet, and only run you about $3.

The adapter is like this:

and you may have one lying around. The RCA jacks may also be female.

Thanks for replying. It looks like that would enable me to hook it to the TV, but how would I hook up that and my Xbox 360 (and maybe even my PC) to the same VGA port?

you could buy an inexpensive VGA switch. You can plug 4 VGA cables in and it has one output. You switch between the 4 inputs. You could just use a cheap composite video switch with stereo audio and switch your audio with that. Heres a link.

lol -- I'm glad you like it so much and that you got it already :)
They really are a nifty device and it's hard to describe it without people thinking you're making it up :)

Hmm, yeah that would work. It would suck having to switch both things but hey. Thanks! And yeah I definitely plan to get a VGA switch from you, racketboy once I do this. I've heard nothing but good things about it. I love your site btw!

To further post about this device, I showcased it this weekend at a lanparty and a gaming center. I discovered that Soul Calibur is one of the best games to show because it is simply beautiful, Lizardman in particular. However Karous turned alot of heads aswell as Rez. Racket you should have a few orders coming in within the next few weeks.

Cool :) BTW, I just realized today that I forgot about that flyer for the conference. Remind me when your next one is...
