Oh, wow, how could I forget about Snacker? I wouldn't touch any body of water in that game without an infinite lives cheat code. Don't even get me started on Rusty Bucket Bay. If I remember correctly, if you fall in the gap between the dock and the ship, you're pretty much screwed. You have to wait for Snacker to come and kill you to get out. I think there's a ladder somewhere there, but I'm not sure.Ienzo wrote:banjo kazooie: snacker the shark in treasure trove cove

That reminded me of Dark Forces. The third level used to terrify me, specifically the creatures hiding in the sewage. You'd be walking along when suddenly this freaky thing with tentacles would rise up out of the water, scream at you, and go straight through your shields to knock off twenty health. The guy in this video doesn't see one come out of the water directly, but at about 4:45 he gets hit with one on the right side:the7k wrote:I know this sounds funny, but the scariest part of a game for me outside of the horror genre was:
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.
Level 8: Sewers of Imperial City.
Skip to 4:00. It's not all that scary these days, but back then, that freaked me right the f*** out.

I actually was psychologically traumatized by the parts in Seaman where the Gillmen would suck eachother's blood using their tentacles. I was only 10 years old at the time, so understandably the scenes did produce nightmares. But what really got to me was the inhumanity of the whole scenario -- the host frantically trying to figure out what was going on, and the guilty Gillman smirking and saying "Yummy!" or something to that effect. I flicked the fuck out of that little Gillman.

Not a game but the topic brings this to mind...

Man that sucks. (sorry)Original_Name wrote:I actually was psychologically traumatized by the parts in Seaman where the Gillmen would suck eachother's blood using their tentacles. Hated that other Seamen couldn't just swim outta it.

I think Penny Arcade made a funny comic about that too, showing a crazed Lara killing every creature she finds LOL. Tomb Raider Legends does actually acknowledge this at one point, with a brief bit of dialogue between Lara and Alastor after she skills some big wild cat(I don't remember if it was a tiger, puma or whatever)Pulsar_t wrote:I never understood why she had to exterminate so many endangered species!Gamerforlife wrote:It's not that impressive now, but back when the game originally came out and I played through this area for the first time, this scared the crap out of me:
Skies of Arcadia is expecially funny about this. If you explore in that game, you will eventually discover mysterious, mythical creatures most of world has never seen before or discovered before. Vyse's first plan of action whenever he discovers these creatures? KILL IT! Every single time.
Videogame characters and wildlife don't do well together. How many rpgs have I played where my character is being attacked by pretty much every living thing in the area for no apparent reason.

I always loved how Metroid Prime avoided this. All of the logbook scans of the various creatures you encounter manage to give pretty reasonable reasons for each species as to why they're attacking you.Gamerforlife wrote: Videogame characters and wildlife don't do well together. Don't forget that a bunch of them DON'T attack you, they just hurt you if you land on it.AppleQueso wrote:I always loved how Metroid Prime avoided this. The giant eel in Super Mario 64. Also, the star you had to get by messing with the Chain Chomp.
However, the single scariest non-horror game scene ever?

These things will forever haunt my nightmares.
