I disagree 100% with their assumption that the disc drive will be forfeited in favour of online content. There's not much insight in this article.

I like the idea of no more discs but I'm not a huge fan of streaming games or needing internet to play them. I think it's time consoles go back to cartridges. There's like terabyte SD cards now so it can be done.

cards are way more expensive to make than optical disks. Besides those are rewriteable and god knows what piracy ratings a console like that will have

A look forward to a future where we will be able to play video games just by taking a simple pill.

I just hope at some point, the disc media for video games is over with. I want something cheaper, unscratchable, and less loading time in games but still a physical object.

Well judging from this line:
Sound unlikely? The upcoming PSP GO that Sony announced at this year’s E3 already makes the leap away from physical media, so Sony clearly favors the idea.
This article was written before the PSP GO came out and flopped hard. This was also before OnLive was proven to be just as crappy as we all knew it would be as well. I can understand why they'd think that given how successful download services have been for other things.

Discs cost literally pennies to manufacture, I don't think we'll find anything cheaper anytime soon.

At least in one point Sony's marketing campaign was successful:
Sony must have learned its lesson on this one, by now. The PlayStation 3 launched at $600, and though it stood head and shoulders above every other console on the market as the most powerful console
The PlayStation 3 being the most powerful console in the market is a very doubtful statement. In fact, it is probably not. But the fact that people like the one who wrote this article takes this for granted is quite telling.

PS4 going the stupid PSP GO download only route? Had to say it, DRM's just as painful a pill. :D
