is it possible?
I know soft modding, but i wonder if there are other ways.
want to play ps1 imports w/o modding ps1 console
Re: want to play ps1 imports w/o modding ps1 console
You could get a matching console of the same country if you don't want to mod it.
Not sure to what extent you meant by soft modding
but if you have the PSX grey serial port:

Re: want to play ps1 imports w/o modding ps1 console
if you can't solder or don't wanna chip your PS1 yourself, why not have me install a chip for you? my modchips are multimode 3 (stealth) and can play imports/backups of any region, even the antimodchip protected ones (PAL games require you to use a TV that can handle PAL output). i charge $35 plus shipping for the install service (i will install an MM3 chip and clean/regrease the laser sled and gears then stress test the laser and calibrate it to read better if needed) swap disks or "plugmod" setups are always a pain in the ass and some games don't work right with them. these chips do not require any swapping and work with multidisc games and cheat disks/cheat carts
need console mods or repairs? check my thread here:

You could always do the old fashion swap trick. I used that all throughout middle school some 10 years ago. It depends on whether you have a PSone or a Playstation where the switchs are located.
For a Playstation, you can tape the button in the back right corner down, and the cd should now spin with the tray open.
For a PSone, the swtich is located in the frint right corner, where the lid tab closes. This one can be tricky to hold down, I would suggest taking a piece of scotch tape and folding it about 1/4th of an inch, and roll it over about 4 times. You can wedge that into that little slot where the cd tray tab goes. If you do that, the CD tray can still close, and the cd will spin with the tray open.
Swap trick is pretty simple, you need one legit PSX game to pull it off. The CD drive is a 2X drive, meaning it has two speeds, Fast and Slow.
1) Place the legit game in, and turn the system on with the lid open
2) The legit copy will speed up to 2x, you can tell by the noise the CD drive makes, or by how fast the disc is spinning
3) Once the CD begins to slow down, take out the legit disc, and place in the copy (it is loading the TOC)
4) Once the CD slows down again, put in the legit disc again (it is checking if it is a legit disc)
5) As soon as the disc begins to speed up, place the copy in, and it will load the game
ALT 5) Swap the legit disc with the copy as soon as the Playstation logo disappears and the screen turns black
No modchip needed, and it will play all regions without any issues.

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

If this is anything like the Saturn Swap trick however, it's murder on the system down the road.

Results in straining the motor, circular scratching of game disc and risk of damaging disc hub.AmishSamurai wrote:If this is anything like the Saturn Swap trick however, it's murder on the system down the road.avrame wrote:Swap trick

I dunno, my Playstation is still alive and kicking after all of that (about 4 years of doing the swap trick). PSXs can be found for $15-20 in pawnshops nowadays, so I figure if it does kill it, not to bad a loss.

Why not invest in one of those carts? Can be bought for cheap with no hassles of swap booting.avrame wrote:I dunno, my Playstation is still alive and kicking after all of that (about 4 years of doing the swap trick). Probably cheaper to pay Snowkitty to mod it for you.
