Austin, Texas Rackeboy members' meet on 8/20/2010
Re: Central Texas Rackeboy member's meet
Should be "Too bad for me. I live...". Don't forget about your proper nouns!AppleQueso wrote:Too bad for me I live in a medium sized town in north-central texas and the closest city with even a similar population size are all over 100 miles away.

Way (path) should be weigh (mass*gravitational acceleration).Hobie-wan wrote:Pfft. If it's going to be in a few months, you've got plenty of time to exercise for a nice bike ride. We would even only expect you to bring a few games so your backpack doesn't way too much.AppleQueso wrote:NOT WITHOUT A CAR

Sorry, just 2 small qualms with word usage/grammar.

Sign me up. I live in north/central austin and have a friend or two that are interested. I even have a friend with a few arcade cabs, but they are SFII and MVC II, so that might be off of what you guys are looking for. Should we maybe setup something on facebook to track the guest listing? Maybe nail down a date?

I'm going to talk to a friend. He has a house but it's rented and he has two roommates. That's one possibility.Flake wrote:Any thoughts on a venue or location in Austin?
I could have sworn I read something on Game Over's website inviting groups to contact them if they wanted to hold some kind of event or gathering. I will have to email them and find out more... I can't find the quote on their site anymore. The North Game Over location is tucked away in a nice sized shopping center in Round Rock. There is a gazebo and small courtyard next to the store. They had an outdoor concert at that location before and it worked out very well.
Gamerz Video Game Exchange is a used games mom n' pop shop in Lakeline Mall Northwest of Austin. I contacted these guys through their forum when I was working on setting up a NeoGeo gathering (which never panned out) and they were pretty enthusiastic about hosting. They are already set up with game-by-the hour booths and a projector for group gaming.
Arcade UFO may be another possibility. Parking can be lousy, however, and we would be restricted to arcade games. There is no room to set up TVs and consoles.
Apollo Games is another used game shop. These guys are close to my apartment but they tend to stay away from retro for financial reasons. The store isn't large but they are very gathering friendly. For awhile (may still be going on), a lot of fighting game locals would meet up there to practice at night before driving into Austin to play at UFO.
I'm sure there are other bars and, of course, there are the usual Dave n' Buster's and Main Event venues.
Awesome. Send me a pm with your contact info. It sounds like I live close so we can get together and start working things out. August would be optimal since onemanfilmcrew should be moved in by then. But this could easily be a monthly or seasonal thing if we find a solid location.Zandengoff wrote:Sign me up. I live in north/central austin and have a friend or two that are interested. Well, if you're going to be a grammar snob, at least keep the parts of speech correct. Hobie was using "weigh" in the verb sense, not the noun sense. You write about "weigh" as if it were a noun. It can be used as a noun, but I've only ever seen that in a context where it meant the same thing as "way".Devezu wrote:Way (path) should be weigh (mass*gravitational acceleration).Hobie-wan wrote:Pfft. I remember talking to one of the Gameover employees not that long ago. I think he said the same thing, that there are rooms for rent at one of their locations. I'm heading that way on Friday, actually. If you want I can ask.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
