As someone mentioned earlier, MVS is way cheaper. If you dont wanna spend alot get a multicart from excellentcom.net Theres 100 in 1 MVS carts all the way up to 150 in 1 MVS carts. Yeah they may be bootleg, but the gameplay is the same. Ive got 100 in 1 cart and it plays fine on my Super Neo Candy 29 Candy cab. You could also try jammaboards.com as well.
Your other choice would be emulation on an old Xbox, which Ive also got. Emulators like Final Burn Legends, Final Burn Alpha, Coin Ops Gold, Coin Ops Ignite or Coin Ops Re-Ignite work good with Neo Geo games.

A Super MVS Converter II will run you about $250 plus shipping new, unless if you can find someone selling a used one on Neo-Geo.com or such. As far as I know the only game it can have trouble with is Metal Slug X, which isn't a problem that affects every home console anyway.
That said, unless you're in this for the collection, a consolized MVS will only cost around $300 if you get it from a good seller (expect to pay a lot more if you want it customized). The MVS Converter II is fine though, and you'll be able to pick up and use some AES games while you're at it if you so choose. The only real advantage of a MVS is that if you want the full package - MVS capability, S-Video, component, Unibios, battery mod, etc, a consolized MVS will be a lot cheaper.
If you ever want to get into other arcade platforms, a Supergun will hook up to any JAMMA board, including an MVS board. About the same price as a consolized MVS alone, but much cheaper when multiple boards get involved.

It still wierds me out that this forum is so blatant with emulations and iso's.
I guess that's the truth of it tho.

Re: neo geo cart question
What do you mean... because other forums are strict about talking about emulators, backups and such?

Depends on the situation.sneth wrote:It still wierds me out that this forum is so blatant with emulations and iso's.

I say if you have the originals, emulate as you please!

That's what I like about this forum. There's no nonsense here. We talk about whatever we want as long as we don't offend anyone. Emulation is an important part of the gaming hobby, particularly for retro gamers. It SHOULD be talked aboutsneth wrote:It still wierds me out that this forum is so blatant with emulations and iso's.

Re: neo geo cart question
There are some people around here that like to suggest emulation even when legal means to support the developer actually exist. That doesn't help retro gamers.

Re: neo geo cart question
Emulation usually refers to retro systems anyway. So in all truth, theres no way to support a developer by buying something they dont even make anymore, especially if youre buying it used from the general public on ebay or some other website. So....yeah. Ok.

There isn't? Virtual Console? Xbox Live Arcade rereleases? Steam soon with Genesis games? Gametap? Console compilations and rereleases? The amount of ways to support retro game developers grows each and every year, yet the same old pirating rhetoric continues unfettered.

I didnt think Sega or Nintendo still made money from Microsoft releasing their old games. My mistake. Maybe the licensing rights is where they can profit from that?
