Nintendo Prices

Post by Flake »

Okay, so my girl friend asked me a very good question. I gave her a well though out, reasonable answer. It satisfied her curiosity.

It was also complete B/S because I realized that I honestly don't know:

Why is it that Nintendo published games seem to NEVER lower their prices at retail?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Quite simple.
Have a good product, in high demand. No need to lower price.

Because Nintendo are a bunch of stubborn bastards who think their games are worth the full price 4 years after they come out (I'm looking at you, New Super Mario Bros DS, which is STILL 35 bucks.)

But basically, why drop the price on a popular item? Take this for example, people bought the Guitar Heroes left and right when they came out. Nowadays, since the popularity has died, you could probably catch a game only Rock Band or Guitar Hero for less than 15 bucks.
Collects promo gaming stuff, certain import games, hockey memorabilia, and other oddball things. (sig and avy under construction)

Go to the Nintendo Store and its still the same price since launch. I went to target 2 or 3 years ago and found an unopened copy of super smash bros melee gc game for 29.99 and Super smash bros brawl was already released in stores. The price never went down and i think it was last copy in stores.

Bingo

Although it bugs me that some of the Gamecube games I want to pick up from Nintendo are still up there in price I can understand why they are.

Try living in a PAL territory. It's still ~US$70 here. Yes, you read that right. Double the price you guys pay.

Same goes for any other console out there.

That's because of the Australian "assrape" tax. As I understand it the money goes to keeping games from arriving in your country for six months.

That, and funding our extremist right-wing conservative government so that they can pay for more studies that "prove" 18+ rated games should be banned from our country (despite the fact that even the Australia Catholic Bishops group thinks it's a stupid idea), as well as enforcing a nation-wide Internet filter that nobody wants nor endorses.

Australia: fuck yeah.
