My favourite Dennis Hopper roles:

Land of the Dead (2005) .... Kaufman
Black Dahlia (1998) (VG) .... Walter Pensky
Waterworld (1995) .... Deacon
Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller (1995) (VG) (voice) .... Mr. Beautiful
Speed (1994/I) .... Howard Payne
Super Mario Bros. (1993) .... King Koopa
Blue Velvet (1986) .... Frank Booth
My Science Project (1985) .... Bob Roberts

He certainly was in a lot of movies that I haven't watched or heard of before. RIP

Ha! I didn't know that he was in the Super Mario Bros. movie!

Usually celebrity deaths are very  to me. But I've always been a big fan of Hopper's work and he is one of the all time greats. He was great in almost anything I've ever seen him in, and excelled in smaller parts.

Too many modern audiences have never seen, but should, these earlier films with Hopper:

Rebel Without a Cause - everyone talks about how great Dean was (and he was), but it's fun to see Hopper in this very early role
Giant - again opposite James Dean (and others), an interesting early role in a fantastic film
Easy Rider - he also directed this first-rate, trippy-ass, extremely influential counterculture film. Probably his definitive work, although much of what came later was also great.

He was of course also in Apocalypse Now, Blue Velvet, Cool Hand Luke, Hang 'em High, True Grit, Hoosiers, True Romance, and countless others. Who else has several AFI 100 films on their filmography along with stiff like Meet the Deedles and Space Truckers?!

It's sad that Gary Coleman died, sure. But losing Hopper is losing a real piece of American iconography. Cancer is a fuckin' bitch.
