I just picked up a lot of TG16 games that included a very generic looking "TV game computer cartridge converter". It works as far as I can tell, as the lot included one Japanese Hu-Card, Ninja Warriors.
Anyone have any recommendations for some imported Hu Cards? Nothing rare, expensive, or unplayable for an English speaker, just wondering if there are any easy to find shumps or action games to look out for. Thanks.

Re: Recommend some TG16 imports please
Wow, you don't know how lucky you are. Those converters are usually at least $100.
If you like shooters, Final Soldier is a really good Japan-only import in the Star Soldier series. Gradius, Parodius Da! and Salamander also were released only in Japan. I think Mr. Heli, Download and Darius Plus are also Japan-only. Bomberman '94 is good to import. There's also Street Fighter II:CE, which would be pretty cool to show off running on your Turbo. None of these are too expensive. Of course, there are a TON of other amazing shooters and action games that never made it across the sea, many of which will not break your bank. Also, most of the good TG-16 HuCards can be found much more cheaply if you import the PC Engine versions (very useful for getting a copy of Soldier Blade!!!). If I were you, I'd focus on building up a nice collection of PC Engine games. Much easier and MUCH more fun then TG-16 collection, IMO.
To be honest, I am strictly a PC Engine guy and have never owned a TG-16, so I'm not completely sure which games are Japan-only... but I know there are a lot of them. Here's a site with a pretty full list of PC Engine games with small reviews of them all: http://www.pcengine.co.uk/. That site DOES mention which region the games came out in, so it will be a great, great, great help to you!

If you have a CD attachment, you'll be able to save a good chunk of money on buying the Japanese 3.0 Hu-Card for it.. The US domestics are really expensive, but the imported Japanese are about half the price.
I was just about to post the Software Bible.. LOL!
They're an excellent resource for all HuCards and they're 'Version Comparisons' section may be just what you're looking for..

I forgot about the System 3.0 card being much cheaper in Japan! That is a very good point. Also, the Arcade card was never released in the US, but you can get the Japanese one and play Japanese Arcade CD games if you get the CD add-on. I don't really think the Arcade card is worth bothering with unless you're a serious PCE collector, but at least you know you have the option now!Rurouni_Fencer wrote:If you have a CD attachment, you'll be able to save a good chunk of money on buying the Japanese 3.0 Hu-Card for it.. Again, you are LUCKY in my opinion.
Rule of thumb; unless it's an RPG and you can't read Japanese, get the PC Engine version of everything. 99% of the time, it's cheaper even with shipping.

It is very playable for an English Speaker, and well worth it, and it's not expensive.Breetai wrote:Epic fail.sneth wrote:Far East of Eden

You failed 3 times to point out my original fail....which is they are most CD titles....

Epic Fail on my part!!!sneth wrote:You failed 3 times to point out my original fail....which is they are most CD titles....
Seriously, I'm not sure how much fun someone could have playing Far East of Eden, or any RPG, without knowing the language the game is in. I guess if someone REALLY enjoyed wandering around towns, world maps and dungeons while having to constantly consult FAQS because they can't understand a thing anyone in the game is saying, then it might be fun. I'm taking a wild guess that is not what the OP is looking for.
If that's what you want, I do own all three PCE FEoE games if you're buying. Yup, they are on CD (or Super CD for Kabuki-den. I forget if II is Super CD or not).

Re: Recommend some TG16 imports please
Thanks for all your suggestions! I'm not planning on getting the CD add on, but you never know. Just want to start by picking up some import cards. So pcengine.co.uk is a HUGE help, thanks again!

Yes you are, you just don't consciously realize it yet. Ys Books I&II, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Lords (Winds) of Thunder and Gate of Thunder are all calling out to you...Bikeage wrote:I'm not planning on getting the CD add on...

If you still aren't convinced, watch this youtube video of the opening theme from Ys Book II. If that doesn't make you get off the couch, get out of bed and call the number to order a Turbo CD and Ys Books I&II, then you are weak and frail little man.
