Need help setting up my R4 on my Dsi XL!!

Post by NathanBarnatt »

I have an R4i SDHC card and a DSi XL...

When I put it in the DS and select the game the lower screen goes black and the top screen shows a memory card with "menu?" written on it. I downloaded the newest firmware V1.22b and dragged it onto the mini flash. Also tried dragging just the file "R4i Menu". But nothing works. Someone on youtube has video of it working. Anyone able to help?

Be sure to format the card before loading it with firmware. I notice they can do wacky things if you don't. I use the Panasonic SD card formatter. PM me if you need further help. Here is a link

I think R4i was rip off version r4. You will find a way of getting it work. Try to find the lattest software online (gbatemp) and get the correct version or from the official website. There could be fake version of it that show black screen only or errors.

Yeah, certain cards will refuse to boot on unofficial hardware. The DSTT does this. IT will check that your card is genuine when using the official firmware, if not it will just refuse to boot.

Next time, buy a decent flashcard such as the Acekard or DSTTi. The R4 is a piece of shit now, pretty much every one is a knock off.

I've had an Acekard 2 for a year or so that's never worked. I formatted the microSD and all, but it just never worked, even when I sent it back to the company. May get a cycloDS eventually.

I never got my Acekard 2i to work right. My condolences to you on ordering one, Nathan. Prepare for tons of headaches with that awful thing. Freezing games, having to re-seat the cart dozens of times each time you turn on the DSi to get it to maybe work, and it has even bricked my DSi at one point, and I only got it working again after a few weeks of trial and error. :(

I still have the one that you sold me. It is a nice card. The only disadvantage is only one realtime save slot. The M3 has 3 slots.
