I need to sell my Wii to get some quick money.
As all my game saves and VC games are stored in the Wii's internal memory, does anyone know if i can transfer all this onto an SD card so i'll still have them if/when i buy another Wii console down the line?

Sorry to hear that you have to make a sacrifice like that.
It is very easy to put all your game saves onto an SD card. You CAN put your VC games onto an SD card as well, but you can ONLY use them on the Wii that they were downloaded on. In other words, you wont be able to restore them to a different Wii console down the road. Your game saves are OK though.

I don't believe you can move Wii save games that are Wi-Fi enabled. I remember a while back I tried moving my Super Smash Bros Brawl data and it wouldn't let me... I would assume the same goes for Mario Kart Wii and others.

Thanks dudes!
I guess it doesn't matter bout the VC games that you need the same console as i only had a few anyway, but the game saves were my main concern

Also note that unless things have changed, I do not believe you can transfer save data to a Wii of a game you have not played on THAT Wii. So in order to transfer the data back you'll have to pop the games in for a minute.

Re: Wii memory to SD card transfer
THIS is the reason that I advocate homebrewed emulators on the Wii, instead of the VC. If Nintendo wants us to pay for stuff (I don't mind that, honest!), then let us actually OWN the stuff we buy!!! This is nothing more than bad business, IMO.

Save games yes. VC titles no. You can copy the data but it's locked to the console you bought it on. IF you buy another Wii you have to go begging to Nintendo to transfer your content over.

Do we even know if that works yet, has anyone got Nintendo to transfer WiiWare and VC games to another console?Niode wrote:IF you buy another Wii you have to go begging to Nintendo to transfer your content over.
Re: Wii memory to SD card transfer
Yes, Nintendo will help out if your console is repaired or (sometimes) if you make a special request after buying a new console. But it requires you to send in the old console, so if you sell your existing Wii then the Virtual Console/WiiWare games licensed for use on that device go with it!

You have to send both Wiis to them and wait two weeks. They transfer the content at the factory and send them both back.SpaceBooger wrote:Do we even know if that works yet, has anyone got Nintendo to transfer WiiWare and VC games to another console?Niode wrote:IF you buy another Wii you have to go begging to Nintendo to transfer your content over.
As for game saves you can transfer the ones the system menu will not let you copy with this homebrew application: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Savegame_Manager
