And what's really funny is how their east vs west blurb just proves that Zelda doesn't fit either category.

Morons.

Alright... do you think we can all agree that all RPGs have at least two key elements: Character Development and Gambling?

Character Development in terms of leveling up, equipment, learning skills, etc. Gambling in terms of hit/miss ratios, status immunities, 'guts', random encounters, etc. You use character development to increase your odds in the gambling portion.

is genre even that important anymore? When TV shows and Movies can blend drama and comedy (2 completely opposite things) why must video games still insist on specific genres?

Why do we call them 3rd person action/shooting FPS ect ect ?

Isn't action game enough?

Can't RPG be just about anything, which features Role Playing or levels?

I think that, genre of a game is identified by what it predominantly features.
I could say, however X game has some Y elements

Just because it's a hybrid of two genres doesnt mean it defies classification. Those comedy dramas are just that, comedies and dramas. Sometimes hybrids start developing their own new genre titles, such as docusoaps, but they don't just remain unclassified.

I love run n' guns, shoot 'em ups, beat 'em ups, fighting games, action adventures and platformers. All of these are 'action' games. On the other hand, I cant stand 1st person shooters or survival horrors. Just calling a game an 'action' game really doesnt help me distinguish between what I may like or may not like at all.

Do we call all movies meant to make us laugh just comedies? No, we don't. There are romantic comedies, dramatic comedies, slapstick comedies, and countless other subgenres under the 'comedy' label. The same holds true for video games.
