Sequel Tragedies...

Post by Rurouni_Fencer »

Everybody talks about their favorite games and how each subsequent release in the series, (more or less,) improves upon something from the previous game.
But sometimes, we anxiously reserve a new game in our favorite series, race home to crack it open, sniff the fresh and glossy pages of it's instruction manual, pop the sucker in....
...and weep uncontrollably at how badly they frigged it up!

C'mon, you know it's happened! So voice your discontent here:
What is your favorite video game series, (or one that you really enjoy to follow,) and how has it been violated in an updated release..?

I'll go first -

As you might gather from my signature, I'm a HUGE Samurai Shodown fan! XBox recently was graced with an exclusive sequel - Samurai Shodown Sen.. I had such high hopes, but they were dashed!
Subpar next-gen graphics, unoriginal character designs, useless special moves, wanky control, and uneven AI, (even for an SNK game,) make this game a travesty to SamSho fans everywhere.. I wanted to like it, I tried to like it, but you can't make crap smell like roses.
Samurai Shodown deserved better than Sen!

I think I'll repost this post from a year or so ago:
The Sonic games have gotten progressively worse from Sonic 1 --> most recent Sonic games. Seriously, every entry has been a little poorer than the last - to the point where the series is now horrendous. That means:

1. Sonic the Hedgehog - 1991 - BEST
2. Sonic 2 - 1992 - WORSE
3. Sonic CD - 1993 - WORSENING MORE
4. Sonic 3 - 1994 - WORSENING STILL
5. Sonic & Knuckles - 1994 - WORSER
6. Sonic 3D - 1997 - MORE WORSER
7. Sonic Adventure - 1998 - WORSERER
8. Sonic Adventure 2 - 2001 - EVEN WORSERER
9. Sonic Heroes - 2003 - MORE WORSERER THAN EVEN THOSE
10. Shadow the Hedgehog - 2005 - STILL WORSERER YET
11. Sonic the Hedgehog - 2006 - WORSERERER
12. Sonic and the Secret Rings - 2007 - WORSTEST
13. Sonic Unleashed - 2008 - WORSTESEST
14.? Sonic and the Black Knight - 2009 - BY FAR THE WORST SONIC EVER?

You really think that Sonic 3 and Knuckles was worse than 2 or 1?

Yup. But I won't rehash my whole diatribe here. The OP (and subsequent debate) was here - http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=103798

I know some people might not agree, but I was disappointed with Star Wars: Battlefront 2. I preferred the first one more.

Deus Ex: Invisible War.

If you've played it, you already know what I'm talking about.

Oh, I hear you. Battlefront was fun because it had just the right mix of mindless FPS fun with actual strategy. Battlefront II messed that formula up by adding too much new stuff to the mix.
