Genesis games coming to Steam

If they allow solid online multiplayer I am interested. Ill buy Golden Axe 1-3 again if I can coop them online - even though Ive done it through Kalleria and Gens. I wouldnt pay for just any beatemup, but it would be a nice side diversion on steam between heavy games.

I love compilations for newer platforms (I have several Sega ones including the recent Sonic's Genesis Collection), but the PC has always been a place for me to do console emulation. It'll be hard to pay for another copy of Golden Axe to play on my PC when the ROM is already sitting there...

Good that Retros are enjoying a resurgence in purchased downloads.

Bad having to purchase an old game all over again.

Current Gen and Steam DRM = Digital Rental Management.

I don't see it as having to buy a game again. If you hook up your NES to play Super Mario then compare it to Virtual Console you can see that the video output of the Wii does wonders for the game. Same for games like Ocarina of Time. I do wish the ones on the Virtual Console were cheaper though. $8 USD for a Genesis game is too expensive.

Can we not turn this into an arguement about "why should I pay the people who made the games when I can barely turn around without falling over old console roms" please? If you don't want to pay for them (again) or hate DRM (of which Steam is one of the least intrusive), that's fine. I just thought it was cool that they were going to be offered on PC, and for less than they are on consoles.

Get a better TV, or just use a Good/higher-end SDTV for all your retro. They're going for dirt cheap on CL these days. You can't tell the difference on mine thanks to the fact that there's no need for 480p or any other BS that isn't the game as it was intended. I do enjoy some extra clarity and non-slowdown in a few games via the Wii, but I still prefer the original machines and their controllers.

I never owned some of these games and my wife will probably kick me out of the house if I keep increasing the "collection" so these options are great for me.

I know I'm always on the pirating soap box, so I'll try not to be too pretentious, but anyone avoiding legitimate methods of obtaining older games because free (and illegal) methods to obtain said games exist screams "ME, ME, ME!". If one owns legitimate copies of the games in cartridge or compilation form, fine, but to say one would rather pirate is to say they'd rather worry about themselves than putting money in the developer's/publisher's hands, whom are responsible for the games being available in the first place.

I'd much prefer new content. But I can understand why they would do this. How expensive could it be to host a few roms? They have nothing to lose from a business standpoint.

I'd rather buy carts though.
