I'm glad to hear someone liked it. I'm forced to wait until next week, when I'll be getting in a little money. I'll definitely be looking forward to it though.

Yesterday, at my door-step, was a silver platter which held a bed a rose petals, upon which rested my new copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes. Yes, Amazon Prime is just that cool.

Otherwise, I think most people have adequately described the game.

* It's not the deepest experience. Don't compare it to Demon's Souls.

* It's a faithful homage to the games of yore, that doesn't necessarily add much to the source material.

* It's priced lower than other new titles to reflect that.

Now, with that said, the game is produced with so much love, its hard not to share the developers enthusiasm. The blend of action, puzzles and adventure is addictive. It seems to play a little faster than the 8-bit games, but is confined by those conventions -- particularly, NPCs that talk too much, and walking from one part of the map to another, simply to find something to do. The game has its difficult moments, but doesn't punish the player.

I tend not to like Zelda overly much, but I do, very much, enjoy the 3D Dots.

So I just finished dungeon 2 and am prepared to grind up cash for certain items. It shouldn't take long (as I'm close to getting one of them) but I decided to switch to something else, so as not to rush through the game too fast.

The game does keep intact that Zelda 1 style of map exploration. There are items to collect all over the map and lots of places to go that you're probably not supposed to go to yet. The dungeons so far are pretty well segregated; it's more like Link's Awakening in that regard.

Having full health has never been so important. It was pretty necessary in Zelda 1 to get that amazing sword beam, but it's even more important here. Your sword has a much longer recovery than in Zelda 1, so the size increase from being full really helps. Also, on the whole it seems that enemies are more agressive in this game. Zelda 1 had enemies that were basically "move in random direction" and an occational bit of extra (Ropes charging you on the same level) but in this game you have a lot of enemies who will explicitly charge you. No enemies as bastardly hard as the Darknuts yet, though.

There's a lot of camera perspectives, that range from a full side view to a full overhead view. The game also ships with a lot of character choices on the disc, and the possibility of downloading more. It's a nice little touch.

In terms of explicit references (not including load screens), so far I've identified Zelda 1, Dragon Quest II, Dragon Quest V, Mega Man 2, Demon's Souls (a real doozey of one), and whatever game used "<Item> GET". When referencing games with an all caps font 3D Dot Game has been doing the same. The game really is a "We've been playing for a long time, now remember every minute of it."

So overall, do those of you who bought it think it's worth getting?

It looks a playthrough takes about 10 hours. There are a few minigames you can do, as well as a higher difficulty level. I'd recommend it to any fan of the old Zelda games.

Sweet, thanks for the reply. Even if it is only 10 hours, it's more than Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 .

I am glad it is providing a similar experience to the first Zelda. That is why I will probably buy the game long before I own a PS3...
