Whats your favorite graphics era?
Re: Whats your favorite graphics era?
Favorites:
Early color Arcade Graphics such as Galaxian, Defender and Robotron. (Maybe sounds had influence)
Vector Graphics - Arcade Star Wars, Space Wars, Space Duel and Home Vectrex, a lost but very cool CAD type images.
Home Atari 2600-5200 then jump forward to PS1, N64 and Dreamcast.
Didn't like:
Home NES era graphics, well except for Mario.
Raster Arcades similar in NES era such as Indiana Jones and older fighters such as Double Dragon.

I've always found there to be something very charming about isometric graphics. Q-Bert, Sonic 3D Blast, Starcraft, et cetera.

16-bit all the way, golden age of video games. Nothing can or will ever compare.
I can't wait for remakes of Mega Man's X days, or for games like 3D Dot Game Heroes in 16-bit style.

16bit is definitely my favourite. 8bit comes a close second.
And that really covers anything of that era. Whether it's the obvious console choices, or home PC of the same era (Commodore 64, Atari ST, Amiga, etc). The Pixel art of those eras was incredible, and definitely my favourite period of gaming and game art.

Remember how amazing LoZ:OOT and FF7 were? I do.

Re: Whats your favorite graphics era?
I was playing Comix Zone today, and I started thinking about how far the art of the sprite had come from the simple blocks in Atari's "Adventure" to the huge, detailed sprites of the late sixteen bit era like the ones used in Comix Zone.
I'd love a hardbound book that traces the history of sprites as art with lots of big, colorful pictutres. Licensing all those copyright-protected characters would be a nightmare though.

Re: Whats your favorite graphics era?
2D sprite gaming died too fast imo. people still love it. heck New Super Mario Bros has sold over 20 Million copies and the Wii version has sold over 13 Million copies. And I know it used 3D graphics for 2D gameplay, but does anyone really doubt they would have sold just as much with quality sprites?
Some more pics from 16-bit gaming (forgot the GBA)

man I loved my GBA. man I love my handhelds. 2D gaming forever.

8Bit-128Bit
Best and most creative games ever made in my opinion happened in this one stretch before it all went to the dogs with party games and massive movie like production values.
@ZeroAX: The GBA is actually a 32Bit console with no 3D hardware.
