I've got two choices right now for running my NES games. I've only got space for one machine as my apartment is quite small. I'm in college; sacrifices have to be made.
So I can hook up my NES2 (top loader) but it's only got RF hook up. Or I can take my FC Twin, which would make for an extra SNES but it only uses SNES controllers and doesn't emulate NES sound properly.
The TV in question is a 13" SD TV with monaural sound.
So what do I choose: Proper controllers and sound on a TV with substandard audio? Or better visuals on a tiny screen.
What would you guys/gals do?
Two NES options: Help me pick one.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

If the sound is the only drawback you have with the FC Twin, I would take that. It is basically two systems, and in a dorm it's not like you are going to have a lot of quiet times to truly enjoy the sound from your tv and games.
Re: Two NES options: Help me pick one.
The sound isn't the only drawback.
Go with the Toploader NES. Even though it uses rf only, and you get jail bars, it is still better than the twin. I've tried the latest version of the twin and it had some slowdown problems, and the pins suck on it.

You're in dorm... so go with emulation. Get a Wii with homebrew and emulate the games you already own. Great space saver and many game options!

Personally I'd be weary of bringing something like the NES2 to a dorm. Those things aren't cheap at all.
I agree with this. No risk of losing valuable games or consoles this way.Breetai wrote:You're in dorm... so go with emulation. Get a Wii with homebrew and emulate the games you already own. Great space saver and many game options!

You could take a dingoo. The emulation for NES/SNES/GBA/GB/GBC/GEN/SMS/MVS/CPS1/CPS2/TG16/Coleco/and more is pretty good and it has a nice tv-out feature. It is cheap and small and has good battery life. The only setback is that you wouldn't get 2 player.
It would be pretty hard to steal if it was in your pocket when you left.
EDIT: Also the new A330 has double the ram, a better screen, and an available wireless controller compared with the first gen unit.

Leave the NES2 at home. That thing will get stolen if it's in your dorm room.
Re: Two NES options: Help me pick one.
Or you could just read a book... seeing you're in school and all...
Re: Two NES options: Help me pick one.
I don't know if it would change your opinions at all, but no dorm room guys. Just a very small apartment. I am 26 years old and a Navy vet. The concept of sharing living space with 18 year olds...well, that'd be a living hell. So theft isn't that big of a threat, just a lack of real estate to devote to game consoles...and I've got a lot of game consoles.
Oh and no offense to any 18 year olds on these boards. I'm sure you're great, clean, and good company. But get a hundred 18 year olds together and you have a maelstrom.
Oh and...
So the consensus is FC Twin?

That'd be good advice 99% of the time but I've been pretty deliberate in both my choice of colleges, degree programs and classes taken. Trust me, I'm just here for the piece of paper.ujnhunter wrote:Or you could just read a book... seeing you're in school and all...
