Hell I'd even wager that they are only there at all for aesthetic purposes.
If they focused so much on the aesthetics of the PS3 they wouldn't have made it such a finger print magnet. They probably serve at least a minor purpose.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

...are you implying that the ps3's glossy finish WASN'T an aesthetic choice?

I hate glossy finishes. On portables especially. Give me a classic gameboy finish on the nintendo ds.

yeah, glossy finishes are the worst, especially BLACK glossy finishes.

It looks pretty, sure, until you touch it/breathe on it/blink in its general direction
