Need input on parts for my DC Stick!
So coming up next week is the Animazement anime/gaming/japanoculture con and I'm probably going to finally pick up the parts I'll need for my DC stick there, but what parts specifically should I be looking for?
Basically I'm looking for advice as to which joysticks fit comfortably in the DC stick's case with little to no modification and any tips on the mod process for it.
Also, any input on Seimitsu's skeleton buttons, should I use screw in's, or snap ins? Are they inter-compatible? Just preference?

Re: Need input on parts for my DC Stick!
You can get a JLF in there quite easily, you will have to file away some of the plastic though else it'll sit too low, also the screwholes aren't lined up IIRC so you'll have to redo them, this is the same with all the sticks.
Also you'll need you file the button holes as Semmy and Sanwa buttons are a tiny bit bigger than the stock ones in there, 30mm where the holes are around 27mm on the metal faceplate, unless you're swapping it for a plexi? The button holes on the underside are slightly too close together for screw ins so it's snap ins all the way.
Are you keeping the PCB?

You can't do much with the official DreamCast controllers as the joysticks and shoulder buttons don't work by usual potentiometers but by magnets and receivers that convert the pull of the magnets at any one time into working out how much the button/joystick is moved.
That's why I used a MadCatz controller - this DreamCast controller uses regular potentiometers so you can change the joystick for a different one (as I did in my project).

No, Bac, he's talking about the Dreamcast arcade stick.

Ah, sorry, don't know about that one! I thought he was talking about the controller

I learned something. Didn't know about the magnet sensors. Thanx!bacteria wrote:Ah, sorry, don't know about that one! I thought he was talking about the controller

Yeah, I'm keeping the original DC stick's PCB. No use in wasting a perfectly good (and expensive) arcade stick's PCB that can still be used.

It's cool, always glad for some help of any kind, plus now I'll know not to use an official DC controller if I make a custom stick later on.bacteria wrote:Ah, sorry, don't know about that one! I thought he was talking about the controller

Re: Need input on parts for my DC Stick!
you pretty much have to dremmel out the sheet metal front piece to fit in sanwa/seimitsu parts. Grinder bit FTW. I recommend snap in buttons, as the buttons fit into short tubes in the joystick, and you'd probably have to cut away a lot of that plastic to accomodate screw-in buttons.
I've done a couple DC sticks with sanwa parts, it's not bad at all, the only tricky part aside from the dremmel work is color translating the agetec pcb to the sanwa joystick wiring harness, but there are a few pages available with that info, or I could take a pic of mine for you.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
