Lookey, there are slots on the left side hiding towards the base below the Hard Drive. It is completely covered when sitting like a tumbling tower of bricks or should I say BRICK. No airflow from left side causing heat to rise inside like the rising of my blood pressure when I saw that ugly Yellow Light.
To Sony, a Raspberry for misleading information. The replacement when it arrives will have PS Logo permanently set to Desktop mode!

Since March 23rd, son's PS3 still running. Long term? Who knows, but do feel better going horizontal.
I wasn't talking about which way to lay the console, just that different PS3 fat models have different fan arrangements. By modmans description, his hot air exits on the right side of the console and cool air comes in the back. Mine is complete opposite as demonstrated in the crappy paint edited pic:

Stepping on eggs here. Owning any current Gen machine isn't cool in a literal way or in my case cool with last Gen PS2 with HDAdvance/HDLoader convenience. Son's PS3 is forever stuck with the Firmware downgrades and YLOD unreliability no-lead solder.

The bottom air holes are pointless anyway as the HDD sits in an fully enclosed plastic box once the little cover is on the bottom with no air flow from the rear fans able to reach it.
