We've had many political discussions on here and I hope we have many more. That's why this is the "Whatever" forum, not the ""anything game-related" forum.

Seems we also have to make that defense every time a political thread comes up.

I won't rehash my own arguments about American politics that appear in those above threads, but just a general guideline for these threads: try to avoid any kind of sweeping generalizations like "politics suck" or "the government is evil" or "tea partiers are racist" etc. etc. A worthwhile political thread is full of well-reasoned, thought out (and - yes - often lengthy) posts.

In my opinion, a large part of the problem is that the way our system works now was not the intent of the founders. Congress is run by corporations and special interests. IIRC the SCOTUS also recently ruled that corporations can make direct donations to candidates. We are not being represented accurately. There is no way the American people would have accepted the bailout of the banks. Recent bills regarding more banking regulation have also been shot down.

There are more examples but just wanted to get a discussion going. Of course I am open to alternative views.
