Re: Counting your collection
I count them as one.Curlypaul wrote:Firstly, do I count collections of games on one disk, a la Sonic Jam, as one game or many? Really its only one, but one of the things I want to track is how many games I've finished and how many I've still never played.
I wouldn't count pirates, but I do count downloaded games.Curlypaul wrote:For the same reason, do I count pirates that I've inadvertently picked up over the years? I still want to count them as finished or whatever, but I dont really consider them part of the collection. Likewise, i dont really count the handful of wiiware titles that I've got - without a box it just doesnt feel like I own them.
I used to count my collection, but at some point, somewhere between 6-12 months ago, I stopped caring how many I had. I realized the number was meaningless, why keep count?Curlypaul wrote:Do you guys count your collection? what things do you include/exclude? what is it that drives you to now exactly how many N64 games you own and how many have a box?

Re: Counting your collection
Who is going to care about a perminant record of you games in a 100 years or 10? Will you even care in a few years? I created an access database of my VHS collection in the late 90's. It was perfect and complete. I don't own any VHS movies today. If something is worth knowing I can find it in my house.
If not, it's a treasure to rediscover like where the shit my star trek micro machine collection is at.

Re: Counting your collection
That's only because you didn't take the time to add them in RFGeneration. The game database they have is based on users inputting their collection. I've had versions of games not in their database, so there are a couple of titles attributed to me in there. Trust me, it's a great system that's worth using if you want to track it.Curlypaul wrote:Yeah I joined both of those site some time ago and started adding a few games, they are both cool sites but I was turned off them though since neither of them seem to have the european exclusives or alternative titles.
As for why I like having it...it's tough going through my collection, and sometimes I want to show off what I have or respond to a question, but the list is too long to write out. Having it online lets me just post a link to the relevant information. I use RFGeneration for actual collecting, while Backloggery.com gets used mainly so I can remember which games I've actually beaten that I own.

Backloggery works for me, keeps track of what I have and helps me actually play what I buy.

Re: Counting your collection
I have all of my items on Excel listed by a seperate tab for each system. I also have tabs for games I'm looking for by each system - depending upon the system I may have multiple tabs with multiple tiered games. This allows me to quickly look at what I have but also is a great tool for insurance purposes. If something ever happened it's much easier to just look at the spreadsheet than having to remember exactly what I had in a time of stress.

Re: Counting your collection
I use IGN, Backloggery, and excel spreadsheets to keep track of my gaming collection. My Backloggery is great for listing out what I'm currently playing and compilations. I use IGN as my main list of gaming collection I like looking at details, box art for each game. Excel is my backup copy based on main list at IGN and lists all the individual details about my games such as whether it's complete, loose, hardware, accessories, etc.

Re: Counting your collection
The problem I have with all these sites is that they require manual input of titles OR a very short selection of titles per screen. If any of them offered the full library for each system on one page and allowed you to go down a checklist clicking off the games you own (with another column to click it's condition, perhaps), I'd be much more likely to use it.
I started a collection and backlog at backloggery once upon a time, but I found the process to be tedious. I can't be bothered to input hundreds of titles manually. I'd also like to see VGPC put a system together (or integrate with one of these sites) so that you can track the approx. value of your collection as well...

exactly. I've added a few GB/C/A rarities and variants myself.Ack wrote: That's only because you didn't take the time to add them in RFGeneration. Yes, when you first put in the collection it's very tedius, but once you've done it then new titles being added doesn't take much time at all. You really just have to bite the bullet and do it.dsheinem wrote:The problem I have with all these sites is that they require manual input of titles OR a very short selection of titles per screen. Now this would be awesome.I'd also like to see VGPC put a system together (or integrate with one of these sites) so that you can track the approx. value of your collection as well...
