Re: What are your favorite Sega CD games?
I've only ever played one Sega CD game, which is Sonic CD. It's my favorite Sonic game. I like the level design and time travel elements a lot.

All the must-haves will be mentioned if they haven't already, so I'll just include:
Road Avenger. Personally, I'd say it's not only good for an FMV game, but a good game. Best FMV on Sega CD or your money back!

I'm a big fan of Don Bluth, so I have to mention Dragon's Lair. This is a FMV game that uses animation instead of live actors. It's a very charming story with great animation.
Dragon's Lair has been ported to numerous platforms--sometimes well, sometimes poorly. The Sega CD version was ported by ReadySoft, and it's a pretty good port. The Sega CD version plays similar to the Macintosh version.

Most of the best have been mentioned. I'll just add that Road Rash on the Sega CD is one of the best versions. Plays as well as any of the Genesis versions, with bonus cheesy 90s music and FMV.

Rise of the Dragon, a decent cyberpunk point-and-clicker.

Re: What are your favorite Sega CD games?
This thread makes me realize that I rarely play my Sega CD. I need to fix the loose AC jack on my Genesis though, that's annoying! You'll be in the middle of playing and one small vibration to the console and it loses power.
The Sega CD version is just the Genesis version only better. Not only was the sound better, but the graphics were too. There was also more content from the original arcade version such as bodies/body parts in the pit. And what's this about load times? If there IS loads times in this version, they must be so short and that's why I can't remember them. Also, you don't have to put in the blood code. The game has the MA-17 rating so we got the full gore content. In my opinion, it's better than the Genesis version.
Other than Hook and MK, I really don't even own that many Sega CD games come to think of it. Final Fight CD is awesome (I'm talking about the game, not the forum member, although he's pretty neat too) and blows the SNES version(s) away. I have Sonic CD and Shining Force CD, but I never played either. I think I played the first level of Sonic CD once, but wasn't in the mood for it at the time. Damn, I need to get my ass in gear.
It's still a great game, but I hate the Sega CD version. Granted, I'm nostalgic to the SNES version, but I hate the tacky things they threw into the Sega CD version. It's just the SNES version with added FMVs that look horrible, voice overs which sound horrible (sounds like one guy did ALL the voices INCLUDING Tink) and they change the awesome music in the levels. Granted, the music is good quality (and the original score from the movie - I really love Hook's soundtrack) but I liked the music from the SNES version. I was sad to see it go.jemsic wrote:Hook is so awesome because its the only version of the game with actual cd movie quality sound. If you haven't tried it you gotta!
Whaaat?flyinburritoman wrote:Mortal Kombat - No, just kidding. That game sucked. It was basically the Genesis version with arcade quality sound and load times.

I've been itching to dust mine off again, just need to find some more strip adapters first though so that I can plug the thing in. I feakin love my Model 1 MegaCD, its one of the consoles that I always wanted when I was a kid but never got. Generally the games arent that great, but the console itself looks fantastic.
Favourite games of mine are Final Fight CD, Sewer Shark and Soul Star. Road Avengers is very cool as well.
Need to expand my collection with this system I think, in fact I was considering aiming at a full European set in my collection as there werent that many games released for it here which makes it an acheivable goal.
