Thought I'd drop this link about how a BioWare employee says Final Fantasy 13 is not an RPG.

Can one really say that Fallout 3 has heavy FPS Elements? I mean, there's not much to an FPS except for a cursor and a camera that doesn't show your character model.

Role
Playing
Game

If acronym is taken in context could mean any game you play, becoming a character or shump in a given game.
Though I think it usually has connotations of a quest, adventure type of game.

Bioware making themselves look stupid. He should start hanging out with Itagaki and David Jaffe, two other guys who love to regularly make asses of themselves for the gaming community

You people are all so funny, you want the actual truth. What ever the majority of people call an RPG is an RPG. We all know shrubs and trees are closily related, A lot of trees are called shrubs and the same for shrubs being called trees. Because people find similiar characteristics. Magnolia is a bush not a tree, so you going to stop calling it a Magnolia tree. An even better example is a tomato, we all know definition wise its a fruit but we will always call it a vegatable. If a game is called an RPG by the majority of gamers, then it is an rpg and zelda is called an rpg by more than its not. Words definitions mean nothing when people use them to describe things unintended. Thats how vocabulary grows and why new definitions pop up everyday and old definitions fade away.

Who here doesn't call Pluto a planet anymore? Soon nobody will call it a planet, your kids, kids will grow up living in an 8 planet solar system. Your previous defintion of what pluto is will die.

And on the metal thing Slayer themselfs said their early albums were hard rock not metal. So are all of you going to refer to there early works as hard rock. You can go a step further where brutal and extreme metal bands don't consider bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Preist Metal. They also think they were not influenced by their music. Almost any band in the 80's will say Kiss and AC/DC got them into metal.

This site list every metal band, if they aren't on there they are not metal, and yes kiss, ac/dc, led zepplin, jimi hendrix aren't listed.

Would that be Wikiality at work?

We want... a SHRUBBERY!
If a game is called an RPG by the majority of gamers, then it is an rpg and zelda is called an rpg by more than its not.
And your source for that statistic is?

As I don't have kids I don't know what the current education looks like. But I still call it a planet.

@mrpopo
Not its not, its reality at work. Wikipedia calls the Zelda series an action adventure. Do
you deny that words mean only what people get from them. Do you deny that defintions and words change with the changing of peoples views? Will every defintion today hold true in the future?

I have no definative source just like noone has a definative source of the oppiste of what I say. I form my opinions like every one else by experience. But you have an opinion too, do you think the majority of people who know what zelda is call it an rpg or not. The thing is if people didn't call it an rpg so much, why did so many of the posters in this thread have to make a comment saying Zelda is not an rpg before it was even touched on being one. They odviously deal with it being called an RPG or is it just used for no apparent reason in their comments. Mrpopo I know your smart enough to see that and are only looking to further arguements. Rpgfan.com also considers it an rpg and no I can't say they are they definative source, they're one of the best I have found and if you have a better rpg website please give a link as I find so many that miss a lot, even they do.

So why on the calling of pluto a planet do you go against the new defintion? Source for you still calling it a planet? or could it be possible you have your own opinion based on your own experiences?

Again I can't claim that metal-archives is the definative source, but it does pretty much stick close to my view and is the largest database of Metal I have seen, if you know another please share.

If you all really want to know why I consider Zelda an RPG its simple. It got me into rpgs. I play rpgs more than any other genre. I own over 200 and have only played maybe 50 or 60 of them. In my experience there are plenty that don't go by the rules most set for rpgs. Illusion of Gaia going by its jewel system of raising stats, among others.

Look I respect other people's opinions, but some things are pretty cut and dried, black and white, right and wrong.

Zelda is not an rpg. That's not opintion, that is FACT. Calling it an rpg just makes you seem like a gamer who doesn't know his stuff.
