I, like most of you who are not in school anymore, try to find the time to balance work, life and games. Sometimes one takes over the other for a period of time. Work has been running me into the ground lately and i'm DYING to get over the couch to play some games.
I've got red dead redemption coming in the mail. Looking forward to it, but with no time on my hands we'll see how soon it gets played. I was so hyped on it i picked up call of juarez. God. I don't think I've ever been kicked out of a game so hard. It was very linear and not in a good way. It made me feel like i was only accomplishing stupid meaningless tasks the stealth was really boring. You know how you don't open a game? By giving a player a gun, taking it away, and then giving him another gun, but no bullets. It doesn't make for a fun action packed western.
I picked up splinter cell: conviction a week and a half ago. Opened it to see if my usb card worked. It did not. Haven't played it yet.
Anyone going to be playing alan wake? I was thinking of picking it up eventually. Good? bad? is it out?
I've been really excited to check out monster hunter tri. Still haven't even picked it up knowing that it is a LONG game and I'm going to need some time for it.
Steam for mac came out much to my rejoicing. All i have are macs (for work) and i'm looking forward to playing some games. Mostly games that are better served on the PC. RTS and dungeon crawlers. Shooters when they come out for the mac. The day steam came out i played torchlight for about 11 hours. Kinda just took the day to marathon it. Still have only scratched the surface of that game, but lately i haven't had the time to get back into despite the steam icon taunting me in the taskbar. However, i gotta say- really enjoying it. I don't really understand what is happening storywise, but i have been loving picking up gear and outfitting my pet.I don't think i've played a dungeon crawler like that since diablo II's release way back when. So based on gameplay alone it came as a pleasant breath of fresh air among the shooters that i play. SPEAKING OF...
Everyone seems to be talking about Call of duty black ops. I think I'm done with call of duty. Well- done with buying those games at release. I picked up cod4:mw and it blew my mind and i feel like every game since has just been trying to coast on my love of that game. Each title seems to say "hey! remember cod4? We are doing that but now with XYZ!" It reminds me of the Price of Persia games after the sands of time. They've kind of coasted now for like 2 games and i'm just done. I don't really see much of a difference between them anymore either. With each new one, it just feels like i've played it before. It doesn't offer any new experiences. Honestly- i'd much rather play battlefield bc 2. Every time i see COD press.. i just.... i can't bring myself to care.
Looking forward to the beta dropping for the new ghost recon. I'm a big fan of the Tom Clancy games. rainbow 6 mostly, but i've only recently gotten into them and i've never played one online. I think it is going to be fun. The games are so much more tactical then COD or Battlefield. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Still waiting on a FPS game for my mac. Fingers crossed on TF2 or Counter strike soon.
Despite me not getting around to that 100 hours of gametime... I hit up the dave and busters with a friend for his birthday a couple days ago. First time i was at one in like 5 or 6 years. Played a lot of shooters that I've been looking forward to for a long time in between shots and beers. Time Crisis 4. House of the dead 4. I've heard a lot of good things about the new rambo aracde rifle game and it didn't disappoint. Huge bullet explosions and a ton of ammo let you waste everything you see. You really feel like a badass. the gun also kicks a tiny bit with each shot. Just taps you in the shoulder. My buddy and I were both shitfaced, just firing like crazy and yelling at that game. Really fun. If you ever get the chance, check it out for sure. I also played an older Jurassic park game that was kind of set up like house of the dead 2? I didn't know this was ever made. Gun game of course, same kinda style. Civilians that you have to avoid shooting, and save. Looks like it came out around the same time. I was playing with a friend of mine. She shot 13 dinosaurs. I shot 111. I no longer look for her help in the zombie outbreak.
You guys playing this stuff? How is it? Lets make a thread and interact.

God I loved Time Crisis 2, I'd like to hear other people's opinion on the PS3 port of Time Crisis 4 since nickfil seemed to enjoy the arcade version so much. Might be something I will check out some time, I'm always looking for some great games to play on my PS3

I'm super bias though. I kind of love all rail shooters. They are just pure fun. I have and love all the time crisis games except for 4.Gamerforlife wrote:God I loved Time Crisis 2, I'd like to hear other people's opinion on the PS3 port of Time Crisis 4 since nickfil seemed to enjoy the arcade version so much. I'd like to pick up tc4 for the ps3, but it went out of print and is CRAZY expensive now. Plus, it is the only game that is going to use that guncon. All other rail shooters are going to use that stupid ps3 wand.

Out of print? Man, that sucks. Hmm, maybe I'll have to make due with a cheap copy of Time Crisis 3, which reminds me. It really sucks that the slim model of the PS3 doesn't have backwards compatability for PS2 games. Oh wellnickfil wrote:I'm super bias though. I kind of love all rail shooters. I like light gun games too, which is funny because I've played very few of them in my life, but they're always fun. I agree with you, playing with a PS3 wand doesn't sound fun

Re: What i've been playing/What i've been thinking
I will be picking up Alan Wake and Read Dead Redemption on Tuesday looking forward to both games. I have played some of Monster Hunter Tri but haven't had much time to devote to it. I played Splinter Cell: Conviction and I really enjoyed story and multiplayer co-op story was fun to play. I'm not super hyped for Call of Duty: Black Ops either. I haven't played Time Crisis 4 in awhile on my PS3. I have been playing some games on Steam on my PC like Dark Void Zero which is cool!!

I'm sick of R*'s games, and somehow I don't think RDR is vastly different to the mundane GTA4. Might get Alan Wake down the line though, but I have to wait and see what this DLC business is all about.
I hope Alpha Protocol turns out okay, despite its stiff animation and that schmuck lead character.

Yeah- for sega's sake i hope alpha protocol turns out to be a good game. It looks fun. I like fun.Pulsar_t wrote:I'm sick of R*'s games, and somehow I don't think RDR is vastly different to the mundane GTA4. As far as rock star- I completely agree. I haven't played a gta other than casually when it is around, and i never had any desire to. They always looked really boring but getting slowly better? I think the change of scenery and name is what Rockstar needed to make the jump to a good game. But you know- we'll see. I like to be optimistic though.
I kinda buy a lot of shitty games being optimistic.
On a side note- fuck dlc. I mean... so i like expantions, but....look, I'm a mass effect fan. I have no idea when the dlc is going to stop being released. I'd like to get a second playthrough with all the dlc all at once. Who knows when that is going to happen.
Re: What i've been playing/What i've been thinking
I agree. Billy's missions were mostly pretty tedious - although I did enjoy Reverend's missions, for the most part. That's one badass Reverend.nickfil wrote:I've got red dead redemption coming in the mail. Looking forward to it, but with no time on my hands we'll see how soon it gets played. I'd like to know about your experience with Red Dead Redemption after you've played a good amount of it. It's the only next-gen game I look forward to at the moment.

Re: What i've been playing/What i've been thinking
My dad and I went to get him RDR last night, we stayed up until about 3 in the morning playing it. Not a bad game so far, no spoilers either though
. As for my copy, it should be coming in the mail today. The only other game I'm really hyped about lately is Fable III due to come out in October. I couldn't agree with you more about not giving a rats ass about Call of Duty and the like. COD MW2 really pisses me off lately, to the point that it's just not even fun anymore. Shitty connection, retarded bastards that you have to play with in almost every room, glitches (GOD, the glitches!). The positive thing about it I suppose is that it will be made by Treyarch. I like their graphics a little better, but don't like how slowly they ran frames on COD: WAW. Hopefully it will be just as bloody, hopefully more so. I've been waiting on something to get me away from first person shooters all together though, back into action/adventure, with a storyline more than 5 hours long and more things to do than just run around and die.
