Since you listed some hard Rock bands, you might like Dio's first band Elf. He was in another band called Rainbow. According to the Metal Archives, they played hard Rock and Heavy Metal.
Rainbow is awesome. This is probably my favorite song, but Rising and Long Live Rock 'n' Roll are both fantastic albums.
Indeed, I could care less about the Dio era Black Sabbath and Dio's solo stuff is ok, it never blew me away though. One of the first bands that I really got into when I was younger was Rainbow, Rainbow are fucking amazing.
traditional/heavy metal not being my forte (I've always been an old-school death metal guy mainly), I can't believe I've waited so long to check Rainbow out. This is amazing.

It's shocking the amount of Ronnie James Dio fans out there that will stare blankly at you when you start talking about Rainbow and then mutter something along the lines "what's that got to do with Dio?". *sigh* Fucking metal fans, they're all bloody idiots. Can't stand them, and I hate I get stereotyped as one (yes I have long hair and wear alternative style clothing but I am by no means a head banger). The vast majority of them are close minded bigots, so scared of even attempting to like another genre of music because they feel it affects their kudos or sexual preference.

Yeah, I am a metalhead and I personally hate being stereotyped, I am trying to at least expand myself, not away but to the point that everyone to get along with, in other words, listen to other music, and its not bad, many of my metalhead friends thinks I am being "too open-minded", to me its ether you are or are you not. As Frank Zappa once said "A mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if its not open".

I've known of Rainbow and Dio's involvement with it for a very long time actually. Most self-described "metalheads" I've met are pretty clueless about metal as a whole honestly anyhow. Couldn't tell you how man kids I've met who claimed to be "death metal" fans but haven't even heard of Suffocation. Generally though, if you're a metal fan and refuse to listen to anything outside of metal, then we probably won't have a lot in common anyhow.
