Ok, so I am looking into getting The Shadow rom made into a repro cart. The game was based on the 1994 movie, of which I am a fairly big fan, but the game was never released (probably because the film was not a huge success). I am also a fan of beat em ups, which this game is. It is a fairly shallow example of that genre, but having played it, I would not say it is bad. But I really want a cart copy of the game. I have identified several folks who can make a repro cart of this unreleased game. Here is my question:
The game was unreleased, so it has a few bugs. The major bug is with one of the enemy sprites, which will flicker all pixelated. I know this is separate from doing a repro cart, but could someone perhaps fix this bug by redoing the sprite? I have experimented with some software, but how could I edit the rom file? Is this possible? Will editing the file make it unusable for the repro process? Anyone have any advice?
Incidentally, the sprite in question is a simple thug who is very common (think Galsia ala Streets of Rage). He is replicated perfectly in other colors, so one could simply replace that sprite with another thug of another color, etc.

The site also has forums, so you'd probably get better answers if you asked there.
Check out the above link. ROM hacking isn't simple to do, but that site has all the info you would need to get started. Take a look at getting started, there's a lot of guides that will teach you how to do such things. Also, the site has tools for extracting/editing sprites (among many other tools).bladerunner wrote:could someone perhaps fix this bug by redoing the sprite? It's possible. You could fix all the glitches and have the ROM play perfectly in (most) emulators, but at the same time create a bug or a glitch when playing it on real hardware. Anything from graphical glitches to freezing.bladerunner wrote:Will editing the file make it unusable for the repro process?
ROMhacking.net actually has help wanted ads, you could post an ad to try and find some one (hopefully experienced in ROM hacking) to help you out.bladerunner wrote:Anyone have any advice?
