Psychologically disturbing games.

10 posts and not a single mention of anything from the Silent Hill series :?

Anyhow, of mention should be Pathologic, a slow paced pc adventure game with a complex and disturbing plot, and I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, an older pc adventure game based on the short story of the same name.

And then there's there's the (indie?) game Yume Nikki, which has you essentially wandering around a girl's dreams. Oh and then there's Eversion, an interesting platformer experience to say the least.

Oh, and I always found the ps2/gamecube game Killer 7 to be very warped and kind of creepy even.

Hey hey hey, I mentioned Silent Hill 2 a couple posts back. But I'll agree, this thread is surprisingly silent about Silent Hill.

Siren, Haunting Ground, Fatal Frame 1-3 and Silent Hill 1-3 all had the feeling of helplessness nailed perfectly. Still trying to find a copy of Haunting Ground...

EDIT!!: Can't really mention any for the PS2, I never really bought any survival horror titles for it.
The best part of the game was the mansion when you had the insanity effect going. The constant sound of someone knocking on a door was very unsettling and then there was also this:

What I really found creepy and morbid though

SPOILERS

was the fact that you had to see every character you played as die. Meaning that no matter how much you fought through each part of the game, your fate was inevitable.

Oh, and the sounds you heard when casting spells in that game. Very creepy

Why doesn't this place have spoiler tags, seriously? It can't be that hard to implement. It's practically a necessity in any forum honestly.

Yume Nikki for the PC. Pure atmosphere. Weird mix of Silent Hill and Earthbound (complete with a graphical change to the first Mother game at one point).

Does Resident Evil 4 count as psychologically disturbing?

I'm going to take this moment to digress a bit. If you like your horror atmospheric and disquieting, I'm going to recommend a movie that gets overlooked. Session 9. Here is a film that uses your imagination against you.

Enjoy.
