So i've been playing Doom again

Loved Doom when it came out; Doom 2 was great but too similar; didn't like Doom 3 much. Doom 64 on the N64 is excellent.

I deleted my last reply and reposted with an add on "EDIT" to get it bumped to top of New Posts. I wonder if yours tagged along, if so apologies. I'm not a MOD so don't see how my delete would affect your reply post.

Doom 1 is obviously the best, and Doom 2 is worthy of being a sequel, but holy fuck Final Doom is absolutely annoying. It's so insanely difficult, and the level designs are attrocious. I made it a point to beat that game on Nightmare too though, as I have with all the Doom games.

do you save every few steps when playing on nightmare?

believe it or not i got back into doom a few months ago. i was able to beat the final level on final doom. you know, the level with monsters literally EVERYWHERE. and they keep coming. and coming. and coming. and coming. maybe its not the final level on final doom. but there's a shit load of monsters none the less. did you beat that level on nightmare? i think i was playing on the 2nd or 3rd difficulty and it took me a few hours to beat b/c i had to keep saving and restoring my previous load whenever i died.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Doom 1 and 2 I just played through as intended. Final Doom I had to use save states towards the end. :(

It just never really occurred to me just how godawful Doom 2 is compared to the original until i played them both in a row.
Any anti-Doom or Doom 2 talk is straight out blasphemy and will not stand! I'm afraid it must be you that is godawful at playing, because it sure as hell is not a godawful game! Learn to play better!

/mandatory defense gripe

Anyway, the increased enemy strength is generally offset by your increased firepower (e.g. the SSG). Yes, the game is harder than the first, but that is part of what made it such a strong sequel - otherwise it would have probably felt even more similar to Doom 1. Plus, like in the first, difficulty is scalable - you can always try to lower the difficulty if you need to. Besides, both games were designed to butt-hurt you unlike most modern FPSs which hold your hand constantly (regenerative health!). So, suck it up and learn how to funnel your rage at the game into death for the demons!

I did beat both Doom and Doom 2 on Hurt me Plenty and when both are compared Doom was overall way more fun. And Doom 2 is supposed to be harder i get that but as i stated i did not like how they made it harder.

But what i don't get about your post is your assumption that i am new to doom and therefore have only played modern fps's and i am clearly incapable of figuring out the difficulty setting. The title of the post is "So i have been playing Doom AGAIN"

Anyway i suppose i should get back to playing something easier because clearly hating Doom 2 means i can't handle it :Þ

GAH!
My little brother used to be afraid to leave his bed at night, becuase he was afraid of Cyberdemons.

I like Doom 2 more than Doom. I just found the enemies to be more interesting, the level designs more interesting, I loved the new weapons, and I liked the music better too. Final Doom, however, was flat out awful. It felt like a compilation of badly designed user levels. They pitched you against boss level enemies in the first 3 levels, even.

IMO: Doom 2> Doom 3> Doom > Final Doom.

Really? Doom 3 better than Doom? Seems like everyone I know either hated or at least disliked Doom 3, and having beaten it, I can say I didn't really care for it either.

As I understand it, Final Doom IS a compliation of badly designed user levels.

Also, Doom 3 is not a Doom game.

That's right, it's Serious Sam with a lighting problem.
