Does anybody just buy the game only or complete

Anyway, I don't care for cardboard boxes, but plastic cases are preferred.

Nope, I have issues of EGM and Gamepro from 1993 and 1994. They call it "Super NES" or S-NES". So I'd say it died when the Super Nintendo died.

CIB means nothing to me, other than that I'll probably wind up paying more for the same game. Thats not to say I don't like good packaging -- I'd just rather use whats on the cover project, versus the original.

So, even if I buy the game with the original packaging, there is a fair chance I'll throw that packaging in a box with the rest of em, and make a new one consistent with the others.

There's a part of me that is impressed with some of the great custom covers I've seen for various games, but it's the purist in me that makes me always want the oficial cover art

This topic brings to mind something I've noticed over the years about collectors edition packaging. From my personal experience, collectors editions suck. I remember Resident Evil 4 collectors edition on the PS2 having a god awful tin case with the two cds on top of eachother and they were hard to pull out too. I think they did the same thing with Final Fantasy 12 collectors edition. And there are non game related examples of this too. I bought the collector's version of Michael Jackson's 25 anniversary re-release of Thriller and it comes with this flimsy cd holder that will drop that cd to the floor should the thing every end up upside down for any reason

This always was an issue with tv series on dvd too. Buffy and Angel once came in these really fancy fold out, accordion like cases. They were gorgeous due to all the pics from the show all over them along with select quotes from the shows. However, those accordion like cases were a pain to open. You needed a table just to have room to lay the whole thing out and those dvd sets were notorious for having crappy hubs that let the discs come loose. Now and days, you see dvd sets for Buffy and Angel and they are much more practical though less visually impressive.

This is why I don't go for collector's editions and fancy packaging when I buy stuff now. I like my simple cd jewel cases and regular old dvd cases. They are easy to work with and they do what they're suppossed to do, which is keep your cd and dvds held in place while also making them easy to remove

Anyone else avoid collectors editions and fancy packaging for the same reasons?

For DS, Wii, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PS1/2, and Xbox I want CIB. I'll buy it incomplete if I can find it for very cheap (like Morrowind GOTY for Xbox) or Mega Man X Collection for the Gamecube but than I'm always on the hunt trying to find that piece I'm missing.

For N64, NES, SNES, GB, and GBC I like instructions but they're not necessary and I'll take just cart. If I find them with extra pieces for cheap than fine.

For GBA I want instructions but I don't need the box. Thanks to Noise I've started putting my GBA games in DS cases with art from The Cover Project.

Personally, I rather have CIB for CD/DVDs for the reason of protecting the game. As well as, since I enjoy to draw it can one every while inspire me to draw from looking at the cover. While, loose I would prefer mainly for older games, since CIB can get expensive for older games (such as Earthbound, Gunstar heroes, ect.) But in general, CIB I rather have compared to loose (except once it completely fills up space on my shelves, then prehaps the dump would enjoy the boxes.)

It depends on the box. If it's a solid plastic case, I'd prefer that. If it's cardboard, I could care less.

That's what I operate by during my game purchases. If it's a disc game, it MUST have the box. If it's a cartridge game, it's different. If it's a DS game, or any other that had a plastic box, it has to have the box. If it's a cartridge that came in a cardboard box, I don't need it, although if it costs the same boxed as it does loose, I'll buy the boxed copy.

I don't have any need for the cardboard boxes for my NES or SNES games. I like the way the cartridges look without any box. Genesis is different though. Genesis carts look kinda puny by themselves. Most of them came with cool hard plastic cases. Genesis cases look damn sexy lined up on a shelf. I keep all my discs in cases to keep them from getting scratched up.

Why the heck do you own the monstrosity that is called Back To The Future 3?
